GE Microwave-Touch pad/controls fail unless you hit side of oven

There seems to be a short or loose connection to the touchpad
It will work if you hold down the button while it is cooking
If you don't -it stops working after several seconds
A good whack on the control side of the oven makes it work
sometimes. The oven itself heats and works properly.
The oven is 4 years old.

I can only toss you some ideas, but likely but not always, you might have what are called security screws holding the cover on the microwave - they typically have a little pin in the center and you need to buy a special tip to remove the screws including any on the side - then pull and slide the cover off the microwave - Needless to say with the power unplugged!
Then you should take a close look even with a magnifying glass, at any of your connections - many are spade connectors pushed onto flat blade-like pins - you may find that you have an over-heated one, or a loose one. If it is overheated, you will have to cut off the bad connector, get a new one wherever, strip the wire(s) back and crimp on the new one. If the connector is simply loose, take a pair of needle nose pliers and close up the connector so that it goes back on tightly.
Now this is where you need to (sorry to swear), but use common sense - plug in your microwave with the cover off, and try you touchpad to test whatever repair you did - If it is fixed, then unplug and put the cover back on and back to Zip-Zap and Ding Suppers

SOURCE: GE Microwave won't heat or cook - one year old

More than likely the magnetron has failed. This could be for a number of reason. Do you use your microwave to heat wheat packs or warm plates? If so, you may have dried the magnetron out (they use the moisture in whatever you're cooking to heat it, and plates/wheat bags have no moisture).

I'd say a trip to your local Microwave repairer could be in order. It could also be the High Voltage Fuse which has failed. Either way a repairer will be able to tell you!

SOURCE: Touch control failed on GE Spacemaker Microwave HVM1540

If you want to order a touch pad, (it has the micro computer built in it!) and fix it that way, you'll still have a 2-3 year old machine.
I would say it would be quicker and cheaper to buy a new one.

SOURCE: GE Spacesaver Microwave touchpad

You almost certainly have a bad membrane keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a
handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs nationwide.

But please note that for some GE models, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.
That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

Either way, we can let you know what your options and costs would be and send you other helpful info.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me
directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: I have a GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave Touch Pad does not work

Sadly, GE does not make individual parts available for these controllers, so they cannot be repaired.

You have to replace the control panel sub-assembly (part number WB07X10733 in your case) and the best price I've found on that is $370.32 here (compared to $483.25 direct from GE).

In my opinion, this does not do much to inspire brand loyalty...

Or you may be able to find a whole oven on eBay for about that or less.

Sorry to bear bad news. Good luck.

Ge profile microwave oven touchpad not working

The touch pad is more than like the problem. This is common. Try removing the ribbon connector and reinserting it back in the receptacle. If this doesn't fix the problem then replace the touch pad.

Touch pad does not work when I push start but the light and clock and other features seem to work

please follow this steps for troubleshooting. God bless you

  1. Controller is confusedA power surge or random non-reproducible action of the universe may have resulted in the controller's program ending up in an infinite loop. Pull the plug for a minute or two to reset it.
  2. Defective Interlock switchesThis can result in the controller thinking the door is open and ignoring you.
  3. CleaningCleaning solutions (spray cleaner) may have gotten inside and shorted out the touchpad or controller. If this happens remove the touchpad, let it air dry for a few days, and then attach it back on the microwave.

HOW DO I CHANGE OUT THE TOUCHPAD FOR JNM1731DPBB

I'd suggest you contact Matt Fadorsen at eM-Ka Ventures in Chesterland, Ohio. He just repaired my GE keypad on a Model JVM2070CH02 microwave (GE doesn't make just the membrane keypad available--you have to purchase the entire control panel ($548.00 through a local parts distributor). Matt's turnaround from the time I removed the keypad to the time I re-installed it was only 8 days--and it only cost me $100, which included the return shipping. I'm sold on Matt!

The touch pod on my microwavw 9je635 wont do anything when i press the boutos for timing fuction

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the microwave buttons don't work the touchpad and control panel assembly are probably defective.
Touchpad

If the microwave buttons don't work the touchpad might be at fault. Generally speaking, if the dishwasher display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.
User Control and Display Board

If the microwave buttons don't work the user control and display board are most likely defective and will need to be replaced. If some of the buttons work and some don't, it is more likely a touch pad problem and the touch pad will need to be replaced.
Main Control Board

If the microwave buttons don't work the main control board is most likely defective and will need to be replaced. If some of the buttons work the touch pad is likely the problem. If none of the buttons work the problem may be in the main control board.1_24_2013_5_54_53_pm.gif1_24_2013_5_55_10_pm.jpg

Touchpad will not work after boiling water underneath it for 12 minutes without fan humidity cause touch pad to stop working , I have a GE mdv 2040 with green display touch pad

you can change the touchpad to help with this but whenever you have a microwave over a range you are going to have issues with this. you have to make sure you use the vent on high whenever broiling anything to prevent the moisture from getting in the touch pad because all your touchpad consists of is two stickers and some flat wire so moisture can easily getting into it cause it to stop working for a period of time. but changing it is the best thing you can do

Touch pad not working properly

That sounds like the interface controller which is just a little computer chip that cotrols everything and watches the signals from the touchpad is having problems. Usually these will behave like this and then just stop so your touchpad is totally dead. It may take out the time displays as well.

If you have warrenty from GE or the store it will be covered. If you are not covered then it can cost about the same or more as a new microwave as they will have to replace the board. Check your warrenty's, then check the repair cost and check replacement costs. Usually a new microwave is the cheapest.

Ge microwave HVM1540DN1BB button control pad stopped working

I am not familiar with the Whirlpool microwaves; however, I just had the same problem with an LG over the range microwave. Several of the positions on the touchpad quit responding to touch. In our case, it was the touchpad itself that was the problem.

The touchpad on our microwave was held in place with adhesive. We pulled it off and replaced it with a new touchpad. Everything works now. The only complication is getting to the connector which carries the signals from the touchpad to the microwave controls. We had to remove and dissassemble the door to get to that connector.

The touchpad cost about $26.00.
