Used cigarette lighter to inflate tire, left inflater on for a long time now cigarette lighter doesn't work and car doesn't always start

It sounds like you might have drained your battery! When the car is running does the Cigarette lighter produce power? It should be working while the car is running. That would also explain why the car starts sporadically. Try leaving the car on for 40 minutes. That might charge the battery enough.

2009 Saturn aura: cigarette lighters/power ports

You likely have a blown fuse. I have heard using the cigarette lighter for charging your cell phone can blow the fuse - was told to use the charger inside the center console for charging my cell phone.

2004 envoy can i use the cigarette lighter socket to keep the envoys battery charged

As long as you use a slow charg device, yes. Rapid charge devices will blow the fuse or at worst can cause a fire.

91 Camry - Cigarette lighter plug active w/o key?

In my personal opinion, electrical current recharging, unattended for a long period of time, backflowing through a circuit not designed for it with the proper fuses and protection, is asking for trouble. Wouldnt it be better to disconnect the battery, and have it fully charged when you get back? The downside is that you will lose radio code and check engine history, but if the check engine light is not on, you havent lost much.

Cigarette Lighter Coming on but power not strong enough to charge anything

the two problems that you posted could be connected somehow by the alternator not charging because of the belt issue. so if you have a low battery, the cigarette lighter would have a low voltage also.

then on the ipod issue, the memory of the radio could have been lost due to removal of battery cables or the battery really went down on its voltage. just re-configure your radio to accept the ipod music.

How to recharge the unit

you can charge it via the usb or cigarette lighter.  either method will work and i am not aware of any problems created by using the lighter.  that really should be the primary charge method as it is expected to be used in the car.  is it charging on your computer.  if it is, but not on the lighter you may want to ensure that the lighter is itself working correctly and then also check to make sure that the fuse in the car charger is intact.  just a few suggestions
