If your Honda mower model HRR2163VXA is not engaging the blade properly when you attempt to engage it, and it's moving backward instead, there could be a few potential causes for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and address the problem:
Safety Interlock System: Most modern lawn mowers, including Honda models, are equipped with safety interlock systems that prevent the blade from engaging while the mower is in reverse or the handle is not properly engaged. Make sure you are following the correct procedure for engaging the blade and that you are not inadvertently activating the safety mechanisms.
Drive Control Lever Position: Check the position of the drive control lever or drive engagement lever on your mower. Ensure that it is in the proper position for mowing and not in a neutral or reverse position.
Control Cable Adjustment: The control cables that operate the blade engagement and drive functions can sometimes become loose or misadjusted. Check the cables for proper tension and ensure they are connected securely to their respective control levers.
Belt and Pulley Inspection: Inspect the belt that drives the blade engagement system for any signs of damage or wear. Additionally, check the pulleys and pulley mechanisms to ensure they are functioning properly.
Blade Engagement Mechanism Inspection: Examine the blade engagement mechanism itself, including the engagement lever and associated components. Look for any signs of damage, wear, or misalignment that could be preventing proper engagement.
Consult the Manual: Refer to the user manual for your Honda mower for specific instructions on troubleshooting and adjusting the blade engagement system. The manual may have diagrams and step-by-step instructions for resolving issues.
Professional Assistance: If you're unable to identify and resolve the issue on your own, consider seeking assistance from a professional lawn mower technician. They will have experience with Honda mowers and can diagnose and repair any mechanical or electrical problems.
It's important to prioritize safety when working with lawn mowers. If you're unsure about any step or if the issue is not easily resolved, it's recommended to seek professional assistance to avoid potential injury or further damage to the equipment.

All of the information in this clutch cable replacement video is ....Riding Mower Electric PTO Clutch Won't Engage When Hot Problem Fix ...
here is link for owners manual which has parts and wiring diagrams. http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/pd_download/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0060063.pdf
If you need the "clutch" cable, the part number is 169676 from the owners manual. The manual doesnt have replacement procedures for something like that, but it should be pretty intuitive on your machine.
no i do not know where to download it from but its easy to do
there are two different starter solenoids and you will need to know this information before ordering a new one
so follow these instructions and it will be easier for you
DESCRIPTION
a solenoid is composed of copper coil windings
with a metal projectile inside
when a electrical current is passed through it it turns the metal projectile into a negative magnet and shoots it into what ever it need to move
(1) is pre engaged and is connected to your starter motor
and will take quiet a bit of knowledge and quiet a few tools to disconnect the starter solenoid from the starter motor
these are designed to make it harder for the diy mechanic to work on
so that you have to spend money in a work shop getting it repaired
most machines now days are fitted with this type of starter
(2) is a normal starter solenoid and stands alone
you will need to find this out before you replace it
and obtain the new starter solenoid from your local dealer
and make sure it is the right one for your (wet bike / jet ski)
these are designed for the home diy mechanic
and are very easy to replace
LOCATION
if it is a pre engaged type
from your main live battery terminal there will be a long red cable that goes direct to your starter solenoid that is attached to your starter motor
disconnect your main red cable and the two wires
undo your starter motor complete it will be easier to work on
may be dearer but easier to replace the whole unit
the non pre engaged type
your normal starter solenoid will be close to your battery normally in a rubber housing of some sort
the solenoid has two main live polls (one main cable goes to your battery with a label mark this with BATT)
(the second main cable goes to your starter motor with a label mark this with START)
and two wires coming from it (they go to your starter button)
and is placed between your battery and your starter motor
SOLUTION
make sure your battery is disconnected and both live and earth cables are undone and disconnected and remove the battery
your main RED live wire from your battery
follow it until it attaches to a block that block is your starter solenoid
disconnect the block by undoing both the nuts that hold the cable in place on the polls
disconnect the two wires
and replace in the same position as the original one
reconnect the cables and the wiring in reverse to the way you took them off
reconnect your battery
and start up
First make sure you can still engage the blades. Many mowers use a cable attached to a spring to engage the blades. If that is one of the springs, you need a new cable. For the other I will need more information, like what kind of mower is it?How many blades?Another thing to look for is worn or torn holes that the springs attach to.
I fixed the drive cable just yesterday. If the model is exactly hrx217hxa with the serial number between MAGA–1000001 and 139999 as mine is, it can be quite involved to replace the cable if this is the first time, because honda wants to replace the "control arm" as well. You can find a detailed instruction to replace the drive cable from the following link.
http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=281234
The part number that you need to order is 06225-VH7-305, which comes with a very brief instruction on how to replace based on the service manual (not the user manual). The above link will guide you to how to replace the cable, but since the transmission end of the cable changed, you need to replace the "control arm" as well. This requires to disengage the drive "belt", which is the first challenge. Once you disengage it, it is relatively straight forward to replace the "control arm" if you have the right tools (1/8" pin punch and a challen lock plier which are described in the instruction that came with the cable kit). Engaging the drive belt back on is the biggest challenge in the whole process, unless you have the right tool to handle the powerful spring that pulls the whole transmission to give friction to the drive belt. I spent two hours to try to engage the belt without the right tool (probably you need a "brake spring tool"), and I finally did it. The rest of the assembly process is straight forward if you memorize what you did for disassembly. The above link can help you as well. I took pictures of every step, and am going to post it somewhere soon, but if you want to replace it soon, please send me a message if you need help.
