This canon 5750 first had an alarm light come up, asking to adjust for paper size. it was set to A4, so I set it to the proper LTR size. Powered off, then on. Now I get "adjusting. waiting to scan. Scanner light is lit and stays in home position. How do I diagnose this persistent hanging error?
Hello,
We are an authorized Canon Service Center and I can tell you 90% of the time the solution is simple. The machine needs to "acclimate" itself.
Just unplug it.....wait a second or two....plug it back in. The next part is the hardest - you have to wait. DO NOT touch any buttons or mess with the machine during this waiting period..and I mean nothing. Sometimes the wait can be 15 minutes. But after that all is good to go. The Canon MF3110 series is very similar and we have set-up around 100 of these. ALL of them were like this. No big deal.
Being that were are an authorized service center for this machine and you might need a part or something, you can find us easily by go to: http://bopcanon.com/IMAGECLASSMF5750Series.aspx
Thanks :>)

I had same thing happen after a fresh Windows install. It was hard to figure out since it had been working fine until then, but luckily it is simple to fix. Open the Start Menu > Settings > Printers and Faxes folder. Then right-click on the Canon MF4100 Series printer and choose Printing Preferences. In there, change the Paper Size to Letter (instead of A4). You may also have to do this in the Print setup for whatever program you're using to print.

I had the same cr@p of the problem yesterday. The problem was not in
the paper. You have to do 2 simple things, from which one will solve
the problem.
first, download the latest drivers and install them.
And the more important thing, the problem occurred due to incorrect
paper format. Solution is very simple. Open MS word or something
similar, file->print.. and before you print open Properties menu.
There for the Output Size will be selected "Match Page Size". you don't
want that (i don't know why it doesn't work), but the solution is
manually select A4, or whatever your page size is.

The problem is on the computer, not on the printer.
"A4" is a paper size, just like "Letter" and "Legal".
You probably have your software application, such as Excel, Word, etc., set to paper size = A4.
Do this in your program on the computer:
[File]
[Page Setup]
[Size] "8 1/2 x 11"
... and print your document again.

Set up the parameters you want A4 Paper orientation etc then go to profiles in printing prefences and ADD to profile.. delete any others that preced this set of parameters
