The basement ejector pump works fine when you flush the toilet or take a shower however when it rains heavily 2 to 3 inches water backs up and comes out onto the basement floor. I also can hear a gurgling sound when it is raining like the backing up into the ejector pump. Pump was installed in new house 5 years ago. I am not sure what brand it is. Could it be we need a new check valve? I am not sure what brand the ejector pump is so I just said Zoeller to send my message
I have seen this problem several times before. The ejector pump should be in a separate crock in the ground by itself. Someone has installed it in the crock that is meant to pump out drain water. Probably the result of adding a bathroom in the basement. You need to bust another hole in the floor and install a separate crock to solve this problem correctly. If it just started happening go outside and look at he gutters to make sure water is running away from the house and not up against the foundation.

Hi Redwine2. I guess I didn't state that the ejector pump is in it's own pit in the basement floor. Is that the same thing as the crock that you stated in your answer ? The ejector pump is setup solely for the bathroom in the basement. I also have a separate sump pump in the corner of the basement that has it's own sump pump pit.
Thanks Redwine2. I don't understand why this would only happen when it rains eavily either. It's not much water that backs up but it does for some odd reason and it doesn happen every time just sometimes. I wouldn't be surprised that the builder did some illegal setup that we can't see! My former house had both ejector and sump pumps that were setup the same way my current house is setup and we didn't have any problems. Thanks again for your help.
