My Kenmore fridge, Model 596-58692890 is not cooling and I've lost use of the water/ice dispenser. The motor and compressor seem to be working but the cool air is not blowing. What part might need to be replaced? Thank you. We have a side by side where by the freezer will not make ice and the food is soft. The refrigerator part seems to keep the food cold. In the freezer it does not seem to blow enough cold air. Any ideas for solutions would be helpful. The appliance is about 10 years old and was with the home when we bought it. Other model numbers listed were 596-58697890 and 596-58695890

Its defrost issue.The defrost assembly parts are not functioning right causing the problem.

It can be issue with faulty compressor capacitor.From main power outlet the power goes to capacitor beside compressor and from there power goes to compressor motor,then after that all unit works.May be that capacitor got shorted or loose from its actual connection.Or other possibility is faulty power wire of refrigerator.Get the wire checked with continuity tester to confirm its not broken in between.

Try cleaning the condensor core.

The black " tank " is the compressor . Will the fan by the compressor run ? If not , that is the problem ( fan motor ) . Are the coils clean of dust , lint , pet hair , etc ? The brand and model number would have helped . Since the compressor is hot , means it should be good . The fan motor must be working , to help keep the compressor cool . Also , the back cardboard or metal panel must be in place when finished , or the fan will draw outside air instead of front air over the coils and compressor .

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.

Basically, if your motor/compressor is working, and it's not freezing, your compressor is faulty, or there is no refrigerant (gas) in the system. either fault is expensive to repair, and can only be repaired by a refrigeration engineer who has the nessesary equipment.
Try defrosting for 48hrs, then re-start, and see if it works.If it doesn't work then you have got one of the expensive faults mentioned above.

If the refrigerator cooling is poor, it may be a problem with the thermostat, the compressor, or the evaporator fan. If ice is accumulating at the back of the fridge, that can also be a reason for poor cooling.
