A little over a month ago the lamp to my tv busted which was expected since it was about three years old. My wife ordered a replacement lamp which I soon found out after receiving it that it was a knock-off imitation lamp. I replaced the bad lamp and the tv worked fine. I turned on the tv the next day and it gave me the light show that says the lamp is bad. I pulled out the lamp to check it out and it looked fine. I reseated it and the tv turned back on without a problem. The next morning I tried to turn on the tv and it didn't work and gave me the light show and went through the power recycle process. I tried reseating the lamp again and even replacing the bulb into the old lamp casing just in case. It still didn't work. I ordered a new lamp and am waiting on that, but I'm just wondering if this could be a problem with the tv now and not just the lamp. I've read several people talking about a "balast" and it got me wondering. Thanks

Your lamp door switch or lamp switch (there are 2) may not be fully engaged or one may have failed. Try seating the lamp again, you may not have it fully installed.
Hi Thanks for using FixYa. From what
you have described it seems to be a shutdown circuit problem, and a
problem in the section of the TV that provides High Voltage to drive the raster
creating circuitry. Usually the issue is with the bulb going bad however, as
you have already replaced the bulb few months back, so in your case this would also
be the DLP related circuitry which includes the light engine (white light bulb/Color
wheel drive circuitry or LED array, DLP chip and associatedcircuitry).
If you want to do the repair yourself then it is highly recommended that you
should have knowledge of internal circuitry of the TV, if not then it is always
better to take assistance from a qualified repair tech. The cost of repair will
be around $300 including labor if you get it done by a professional. Please do accept the solution
if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance. Thanks Rylee
The first time my lamp needed replaced, the red light came on as well. This time my tv did the same thing, but after talking to my tv repair man he thought it was the lamp. He said that if you use your tv often then the lamp probaly needs to be changed after two or three years. I replacedmy bulb and it corrected the problem and I MUCH BETTER PICTURE.
It could be the a problem with the lamp ballist circuit, or just a bad lamp socket, or simply a bad lamp. The only way to tell is to call out a servicer as that would be alot less expensive then to get a new lamp and then that not be the problem. These problems can be a little hair pulling at times, thats why i have no hair left!! LOL Good Luck
2 years and three months but, what counts are the hours that it was on. Your software only really effects the way the TV interacts with HDMI inputs and really won't effect much else. The manufactures only expect 4-5000 hours on the lamp. Some go less some go more. You need to replace that lamp most likely.
