I had the same problem, get a rebuild kit. It sounds like the diaphram is shot. Also make sure the prime bulb doesn't have any holes or cracks, the engine won't run if it does

Also try checking to ake sure that the engine is at the right angle to get fuel in the bulb. try seeing if the bulb is getting a vacuum seal. I had to put oil on the seal and retighten the bulb screws to get any suction. make sure the fuel lines are inserted far enough into the gas can, check to see if there is any airflow (try when gas tank is EMPTY)

****, I'm supposed to be getting an idea of the problem here. I figured, I'd comment, because I'm stumped on a repair and I wanted a clue to lead my mind. Carbs been dipped, primer evacuates air into the tank, yet doesn't return fuel. Nothing at all. New primer bulb. It's got the third line to make up for the cap no longer being the pressure release. There's something I'm missing and for the life of me, I can't put my finger on it, by all rights, the fuel should flow, carb adjustment is another matter of course, but I'm not ther yet. Very annoying.

Anyway, a 2 cycle can function with a busted primer bulb, see it all the time. Not the way to go, but it can work. The engine is your primary source of intake. As long as it can **** fuel, it can run, busted bulb or no. Part replacement ends up being very simple. Replace the carb or rebuild the carb with new gaskets. Be sure to check for any breaks or obstructions in the lines. Also, much like a backed up muffler/cat will force exhaust back through the carb or through any weak points, you should make sure, the system is clean to flow before you decide what parts are needed.

Just some thoughts, will I realize my own failure. :)

Mantis tiller won't start after installing new fuel bulb

Troubleshooting:

Airlock in the fuel system: If the fuel bulb is not primed correctly, it can cause an airlock in the fuel system, which can prevent the engine from starting. Try priming the fuel bulb again and see if it helps.

Clogged carburetor: A clogged carburetor can also prevent the engine from starting. You can try cleaning the carburetor with a carburetor cleaner.

Faulty spark plug: A faulty spark plug can also cause starting problems. Check the spark plug and replace it if necessary.

Fuel quality: Poor quality fuel can also cause starting problems. Make sure you are using fresh, clean fuel.

Mantis tiller will not start. Cannot get primer bulb to draw fuel.I replaced all of the lines, primer bulb still won't work. Tiller will start by priming cylinder by removing spark plug. Help?

Make sure there are no leaks in the bulb. Did you reattach the fuel lijnes correctly? You should feel resistance after pushing 3 or 4 times to ensure fuel is getting to the carb. If necessary replace the bulb. Otherwise check with Mantis at www.mantis.com or give them a call for troubleshooting assistance.

Cant get gas toflow to carb. Line is clear. I took off the cloth filter on the knuckle on end of tube in the tank - still no draw. I assume this is a gravity feed system or does the carb **** it in ?

The thing in the gas tank is the fuel filter. It prevents foreign debris from entering the carburetor. This must be there.

Here is the parts breakdown. http://www.alamia.us/Mantis_Parts_s/152.htm

Make sure that the pump purge (plastic bulb that primes tiller) is not cracked. If it visibly has fuel in it then it is fine. If empty and does not contain fuel mixture when pressed you have cracked fuel lines. The black ones are prone to cracks over time. Check them thoroughly. This could be the cause of the problem also. Repalce all three at the same time. If all this fails to remedy the problem and there still is no fuel entering the carb replace it and the gasket.

Once reassembled watch this video and do it:

Mantis tiller starts but will not stay running

Carburetor problem. Two stroke engines use oil mixed with gas. Old fuel or setting over the winter will cause varnish and sludge in the Carburetor. Start by buying a can of carburetor cleaner and mixing a new can of fuel.
1) Dump the old fuel and check replace it with new.
2) Remove the air cleaner.
3) Pump the prime bulb 3 or 4 times, set the choke, spray the insides of the carb with the cleaner and then try and start it . It should sputter and run for a few second but chances are it will take a few sprays to clean the jets

Primer bulb will not ciphon fuel to carb

Two cycle engines don't prime the same way that 4 cycles do. A 4 cycle engine shoots fuel into the intake, and a two-stroke like what you have, pressurizes the carburetor and removes air. When you press it, it should harden, and then will slowly let fuel bypass the carb and go back into the fuel tank. Because of the ports and the design of a 2 stroke, shooting fuel into the intake would be bad for the engine.

the check valves in the plastic pump housing under the primer bulb are bad. Usually caused by cleaning with carb and choke cleaner. The part is available from any echo dealer. Most shops have a junk box full of them,, just ask
