Connect the wires together on safety sensor receiver (with green indicator light), so it by-passes safety system.
The safety system consists of sender with amber light, and receiver with green indicator. Receiver must receive light in order to keep switch circuit closed. If receiver receives no light from sender, then switch opens, and garage door will not function.
Connect both wires on receiver will simulate the closed switch, as if receiver is receiving beam of light.
You can order replacement sensors from amazon

check to seee if the little wire that hangs out of the operator is hanging out. This wire is the ant. if this is not the problem replace the 12volt battery you can buy them anywhere. make sure you didn't cut off the ant. wire (I have seen customers cut thios wire thinking its an extra and not needed or place the wire inside the box very little signal that way have to be very close)

Depending on the type of motor that is used in your garage door opener, it could be something as small as a start capacitor, or potentially a bad motor. Hope this helps
SOURCE: My liftmaster garage door only opens 8 inches and then stops
It sounds like the opener is stopping because the weight of the door is tripping the lift sensor on the opener. There are two screws on the side of the opener to adjust the lift and close pressure. Find the lift pressure screw and ajust it higher to see if that remedies the problem.
Also, because you said the door will not stay open at the top when you open it manually, I think your springs are not adjusted correctly. They should hold the door open in the up position when not connected to the door opener. That may be the reason the opener lift pressure is kicking it out.
If you have to adjust the springs, be careful that you know what you are doing. There is a lot of potential for getting hurt if you don't know the proper proceedure.
Good luck.
