We own a craftsman eager-1 mulcher push mower, and are having difficulty in starting and keeping it running. When it does start it will only run for a few seconds before it dies. We replaced the spark plug, but still have a problem. Any suggestions?
Bad fuel. Gas with ethanol attracts water from the air. This does not burn well. Dump the fuel out and fill with fresh fuel. With any luck you won't have to clean the carb too. To dispose of the old stuff, mix in a full container of dri gas (walmart) and dump it in your cars fuel tank and then fill up the tank with fresh fuel
You need a full tuneup which means after the spark plug you need to do all of these and you will have a good running mower.
Drain gas tank.
Take carburetor off and clean it.
Pull the top off the engine and clean the flywhee maginets and the coil face with a small wire brush of emery cloth.
Clean screen in gas tank if there is one.
Fuel filter if the is one.
Be sure to check for a good spark after all this is done.
If this is all done you should have a good running mower.
