No longer cools after power outage

After numerous power outages, the refrigerator no longer cools. We lost all food. We left it off for about a week and then plugged it back in to find it worked. Next month another power outage and it is out again. This time, it does not cool after numerous attempts to plug it back in. It sounds like the fan and/or compressor are running, it just does not cool anything.

JH, did you notice if the freezer back panel was full of frost first time it started thawing? If so you may have a defrost problem. I've had 4 of these control boards (jazz boards) fail on this model in the last week. Behind the front grill, there should be a tech sheet that will show you how to run the componet tests at the control board. Part number for the board is 12002339. This board controls compressor, defrost, damper and fans. Catriver.

SOURCE: Kenmore Coldspot w/Ice Maker Not Making Ice

hi LOP7,
In most cases you can easily solve this problem.
step one would be to make sure your freezer is getting cold enough. If you have icecream in your freezer is it frozen solid or is it soft. Most icemakers cycle around 0 degrees and if your freezer is not getting to 0 then it will not cycle and it will not make ice.
Step two would be to make sure you icemake is cycling. To do this simply lift the little shut off arm on your icemaker and wait about an hour then go back to the icemaker and drop the arm down. The icemaker should start going through a cycle. You should notice the arm slowly begin to raise and the ice dispencer fingers will begin to turn. Then you will hear it call for water. You may hear a humm.
If the freezer is cold enough and the icemaker is cycling that only leaves the inlet valve. replace the valve and enjoy the ice.
If the freezer is cold enought and the icemaker does not cycle, then you have a bad icemaker. Simply replace the icemaker and viola.
Third if the freezer is not cold enought 0 defrees. Then you may have a defrost problem. In this case post more info and I will be happy to help. Good luck [email protected]

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore coldspot side by side- not cooling properly

Setting it to 5 is what the manufacturer recommends. If you set it to 1 and the frig is still not cold, then you probably have a faulty cold control (thermostat)

Inside the fresh food compartment look for an opening that will allow you to turn the defrost timer clockwise slowly. When you hear it click the refrigerator should go into defrost. If the timer is bad it will need replaced. Let me know. Below is a photo of timer.

SOURCE: Kenmore Coldspot compressor kicking on and off

It sounds like you may have toasted one of the starting componets. Either the start relay or the start capacitor has probably failed, causing the compressor to try to start, and then kick off on overload. Hope this helps

Samsung goes into demo mode every time the power goes out and comes back on.

so I guess I'm screwed if I am out of town and come home to a warm refrigerator full of rotted food.

Oven is two weeks old. Town had a power outage we reset at breaker but still just beeps once and nothing happens

power outages cause power surges when the power comes back on
this surge generally manages to fry the power/control board
I suggest that you get the services of the service centre to come out and check it out.

We had a power outage which lasted 45min - 1 hour. We never opened the refrigerator doors until the power came back on. At which point the temperature inside the refrigerator had already gone up 15...

Check and clean your fridge door seals as they may be dirty, have perished/not flexible or even crack.
All doors should also close with a positive 'hermetic' feel: check and remove any obstruction.
You can check the firmness of the seal round the door with a thin piece of plastic or cardboard wedge between the seal and door 'frame'.
Hope it helps.

My refrigerator side of our side by side is freezing the food even though we have it set at 1. Now the water does not come out of the door compartment either. We lost power last week and it was out about 5...

The power outage usually takes the parts out that were trying to go or out of a cycle. Like one of the defrost parts. You may have a timer and/or t-stat that was probably blown out. Or another thing could be your defrost bulbs may be blown out. Check the bulbs first. I hope this helps!

I had a power outage. After power was restored

Replace the adaptive defrost control part number 240375803. About $100.00.

It is located in the fresh food section on the top left side behind the plastic panel.
