Then u probably have a leak did you test for leaks?

Mix some dish soap any water and brush it onto the connections...bubbles mean a leak, if its not the connections you did and the pipes are not new but the unit is then it could be the unit.

test any connection you can get too.

Why is there a strong gas odor?

What is your fuel level? If it is below 10% you may not have a leak. You may be smelling the chemical they add to propane so you can smell it, as propane has no natural odor. If the fuel level is above 10% and you smell a leak, yes, turn off at the tank and call your gas provider. Let them inspect and do a pressure test/leak test for your safety. If you have the cheap fiber logs, you may be smelling those burn.

I have turned off main gas line to dryer and have checked that and the connecting line to dryer and see no leakage but I still have an odor of gas in dryer itself. what should I check next?

check the line inside leading to the flame igniter and glo bar, how did u check for gas leak? just smell or sight? try using a mixture of water and dish detergent by spraying it on the lines while gas is on, and if u see bubbles u got gas leak?

Smell propane after I ran out and filled it back up> I replaced the regulator behind the stove but still smell propane

It is not uncommon to "smell" propane when you run out. Propane has an odorant called mecapitan added to it so you may detect it. When you get low or run out the mercapitan is typically in greater volume than the gas itself. Once you refill, you will also smell it temporarily. Check all connections for tightness and leaks, use a leak solution, and if all is well, start it up and monitor it. The odor should dissipate. If it does not, contact your local licensed propane technician.

WE SHUT OFF THE GAS TO THIS STOVE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND ARE READY TO RELIGHT THE STOVE NOW. WE CAN NOT FIND THE MANUAL AS TO HOW TO DO THAT. WE ARE CONCERNED MAINLY ABOUT THE OVEN AS IT SAYS IT IS A...

You should be able to just open the gas ****. That will supply gas to the gas to the stove. Once you've opened the gas ****, wait about 60 seconds and turn on one of the burners. The electric ignition should work to ignite the gas and you'll have your flame. If you smell a strong odor of gas, DO NOT use the electric ignition until the gas odor diminishes. In other words, when you first smell gas, you can try lighting it. If the smell of gas becomes strong, you DO NOT want to light anything in the area because an accumulation of gas can lead to an explosion. Be very careful.

I have just remodeled a old condo with new toilets and I am getting a strong gas smell. How can I get rid of it. I am in Thailand and the building is 22 years old.

jajoy,

Did you connect the sanitary pipe stack to the sewer line that takes away the flushed effluent? Check to see that the pipe is connected, not leaking sewer gas, not plugged up with an animal carcass, and that the pipe extends through your roof three feet past the roof line (keeps smell out of house).

I have a kenmore elite slide in range. we notice the smell of gas

Hi,

There could be a couple things that would cause your symptoms, I will do my best to try and explain each one.

First off I am assuming from your dialog that everything is cooking the same on the top and in the oven, the times are the same the flames on the top burners look or sound no different. If this is the case the repair outside would not have a direct bearing on a 'problem' but it could cause the odor. Here is why...

Natural gas has no odor a chemical called Mercaptan is added to the gas to make a leak easier to detect. The amount of Mercaptan is regulated closely so it all is consumed in the flame. If there is too much you will get an odor from the flame.

The Mercaptan can line the inside of the piping that feeds gas from the regulator to the range. Working on the pipes can break loose some residue that may have a stronger presence of odorant causing you to smell it for some time. It will eventually go away.

The second thing that could cause this odor is if you have done any remodeling in the home, paint fumes, stains, oils many other chemicals can mix with the gas and cause this Mercaptan to not be burned up all the way and create an odor.

I hope this helps

Smelled mild gas odor after moving dryer. Replaced gas line connection. Still smell gas. Tried to tighten gas line have strong gas odor after running dryer. Does not seem to be heating

The gas valve should not be opening unless the glow igniter glows and sends a signal to the gas valve. I suspect a small leak in either the gas pipe or at the gas valve. You will have to get to the gas valve to perform a leak test. While the dryer is open, replace the igniter.

Gas Odor coming from oven

The reason you can't smell it when the oven is on is because the gas is being ignited. DO NOT USE YOUR STOVE until you get this fixed by a gas fitter. You have a gas leak, which is either a loose fitting or faulty valve or line.

Call your appliance dealer IMMEDIATELY or you could have an explosion!!!!
