The water captured in the defrost drain pan on my Kenmore / GE side by side freezer freezes up causing water to pool in the bottom of the freezer and then this water freezes too. What can cause the water in the defrost drain pan to freeze up? The drain is clear. Couls to long a heated defrost cycle cause this problem?
Check under the base, the tube must be clear to the water tray, often there is a rubber flow restrictor, this either perishes or blockes, either way remove it, defrost over night and then turn back on, should then work ok within 24hrs. Regards Adbvisor
Remove back of unit and check defrost heater has not become detached, otherwse the is only two possibilities, one a defrost fault and although you say the defrost tube is clear the only reason it does not flow is due to a restriction, what can happen is that the water backs up the drain pipe and then freezes before the water in the external tray can evaporate. The line is clear. Water flows through after I de-ice.
the drain line is not blocked. Once I de-ice the catch tray the water flows well.. the challenge is that the water is freezing within the drain tube and in teh catch tray.
Built in GE ZISW36DYA side by side with overhead compressor ....... above the ice maker (ice maker functions normally) at the very top of freezer is pan (defrost collector? ..... finger contact only through some holes) ..... water accumulates and freezes in the pan ..... I can feel a coil and fin assembly just above the pan ..... water then overflows the pan sides and down the side of the freezer walls collecting in the bottom. Suspect the defrost pan drain line is plugged and/or frozen .... unable to see or locate the drain line ....... is there a collection pan at the bottom of the unit? I've read an opinion of drain pump that needs revitalizing .......... HELP.
