Magnavox 32mf231d - Just a blinking green light, No Power

I saw that you tried to resolve a problem 32MF231D that had power issues earlier and was wondering if mine would be the same solution. Here's the deal - when the TV is plugged in, all that happens is a blinking green light. You cant turn it on. The remote makes the green light blink really fast so it is picking it up. When you hit the power button, you hear a full click and then another click that doesn't make it all the way. I have it apart and I saw 2 green LEDs light up for each click on a board in plain view that has the AV inputs on it to the right of the power supply. Nothing looks fried. Same problem. There was a time where I could turn on all components that are plugged in to it (Game, DVD, Sat, etc.), press channel or volume, and eventually (5-10min) it would come up. Now nothing.

I have the same problem. We installed the comcast "box" that they told us we needed since everything was switched to digital, and today, the TV was on and working fine....then suddenly it turned off, atleast the screen went dark, but the green power light is on and keeps flashing. The remote makes it flash faster, so you can tell it is picking up the signal, but we cannot get the TV to turn on. I've tried unplugging it for 60 seconds to re-set it, but no luck. Anyone have advice for this situation?

I had this problem, but saw other places that it was a cheesy capacitor on the power supply circuit board causing this. I opened it up and took the power supply board out and it was obvious which capacitor was bad...top was bulging and had black stuff on it. It was rated 2200 uF @ 25V...got a new one @ Radio Shack that was 2200 uF @ 35v. Soldered it in (I stink @ soldering, but gave it a shot and it was EZ). Watching the first weekend of college football w/o waiting on a flashing green light for up to an hour so the TV would start! I'm going to try to find the other websites that directed me to this to say THANK YOU...BTW my brother used to have fits with several Magnovox TV's and thier power supplies back in the old tube style TV days. I thought I didn't need to worry about this with an HD flatscreen, but was wrong. I will think twice before buying a Phillips/Magnavox/Funai/whatever else they are again. They have a long list of complaints and I believe a class action lawsuit to refer to about this problem. They should have stepped up and done something!

I left out...the new capacitor @ Radio Shack was about $5 with tax...but I stopped & ate lunch for $5.01 @ Chick-fil-A and donated $5 to the Boy Scouts while I was waiting in the drive thru so it came to about $15 total :-)

When I was looking up stuff on this a lot of people were asking for pictures or something to help. I never saw any, but took some of my own. They are on flickr, but are not in the best order. They may help, though, if you are thinking about doing this. If you are reasonably good @ fixing things, you can do this!

    Good luck

Our 37" Magnavox was having the same issues posted here. Blinking light. My husband and I FIXED it for only $5 and an hour of our time. People stop complaining and give it a try. What do you have to loose? It was a very easy fix.You will need to remove the old capacitor, solder the two wires on the new one in then put it all back together. That is it. If you feel unsure about where to put parts back, take pictures for review. I used the same 2200 @ 35v capacitor like the person that posted the pics. Very helpful by the way.

I had the same problem on my MAGNAVOX 37MF337B/37. At first flashing green light and would take many tries to turn on, then finally nothing. I followed the advice of others on this list and ordered a replacement power supply module. Part cost about $110 and was easy to install. The set appears to function perfectly now.

I had the blinking green light problem with my 37" Magnavox and using the info from this site, I opened it up and found the 2200mfd cap was swollen and leaking. There was also a 1200mfd cap swollen and leaking. I replaced them both with 50 working volts dc caps of the same capacitance, put it all back together, and it now works great! Thanks for the info.

I had the bulging capacitor as well on my Magnavox 37 inch. I replaced it with another 2200 mF 25v and no luck. No other evidence of problems on the board, ie no other bulging capacitors. It should also be mentioned that the capacitors are polarized and have to replaced with the leads aligned with the correct positive and negative receptacle holes. I blew up my first replacement capacitor because I didn't know this. Any other ideas what this could be? I have the flashing green light.

You can buy the EXACT capacitors you need at www.digikey.com for less than a buck each. Here is a link to a youtube video for a 50 inch plasma but same principle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ueBrD55Idk

MAGNAVOX 32MF231D TV PIXILATES, THEN GOES BLACK, ON AND OFF?

Hello Kevin,

That type of issue is usually caused by bad filter capacitors on the power supply board. As the capacitors heat up they can't filter the output power correctly so the power supply shuts off to prevent damage. Here is a link to information and parts list of the capacitors neede3d to repair the power board.

WHAT TYPE OF REPLACEMENT CAPACITOR DO YOU USE FOR A MAGNAVOX TV MODEL NUMBER 32MF231D%2F37

If you are working in the switching power supply and need electrolytic, I would use PANASONIC FM series for very low ESR, High ripple current rating, 105c temp. Get them from www.digikey.com

32 in Magnavox tv model 32MF231D/37

An earlier post of the smaller model of this with the same problem said to remove the metal cover over the power supply.

I have the 26MF231D and it worked great afterward (even though you can't mount it)

Here is how you remove the cover.
