The rubber coupling recently disuntegrated on my KitchenAid KSB5 Professional Blender. I purchased a replacement coupling, but can't figure out how to remove the old one and reinstall the replacement. Help please.
Someone else suggested a link that explains exactly how to unthread the old coupling... and it works. It took me about 90 seconds to fix my blender. But in case that link is dead, here's a summary:
(1) Note that the coupling (the round part with teeth) is threaded to the blender motor in reverse to a standard threading. So it screws off just like a bottle top, but in a clockwise direction.
(2) place the blender base on a tabletop, facing you. You should probably unplug it.
(3) take a punch or a flathead screwdriver, and place it against one of the coupling teeth that is furtherest away from you.
(4) strike the back of the screwdriver with a small hammer or maillot. The result will spin coupling clockwise. It may take several tries, but the coupling will eventually spin clockwise faster than the motor, and it will begin to unthread.
(5) unscrew the old coupling, and screw the new coupling into place (counterclockwise). Note that the new coupling will tighten itself every time you use your blender, so no need to worry about tightening it too much.
(6) Make a smoothie to celebrate your success!

I have the Model KSB5OB3 and the coupler can be removed as stated above unless you have one like mine that was frozen on and hard to remove.
The shaft holding the coupler on the KSB5 model is cut to be held with a "very thin" 7mm wrench. When I say thin, it needs to be about half the thickness of a 7mm craftsman wrench or approx. 3/32" or thinner if you have one that thin.
If you can find or make a thin 7mm wrench and have a pair of plumbing pliers it unscrews easily. I made my 7mm wrench fit with a little grinding on the bench grinder.
Depending on the model the shaft size could be different so check before you go and modify any tools to fit.
Hopefully yours is not frozen on and you can go with the screwdriver and hammer. And yes, unplug the blender before you attempt any of this.
Use a flat tip screwdriver. Place between the blender and the coupling. Pry up gently. Rotate coupling 1/4 turn. Pry up gently. Rotate again. Pry again. etc.
Oh my...Maddog kelly you rock for me too. Yall beleive this. This is like magic.
Solution #6 is valid and easier than all other solutions. What Willie11b didn't mention was that the core of the coupler is aluminum while the pin is steel. Because the steel is stronger, you can basically pry the threads of the coupler off with absolutely no damage to the pin. Takes about 20 seconds.

Grab the blade with a rag so you don't cut yourself, then grab the clutch with another rag and turn CLOCKWISE. It's threaded reverse - took me hours to figure this out. I found grabbing with rags or maybe towels worked the best. That should work

How can I get a "breakdown" for the KSB5 blender?
The rubber coupling is cracking and losing its teeth. I haven't used my blender for about a year and when I got it out last night the teeth fell off with very limited use.
It seems clearly like a problem of cheap materials. But how do I get a new one without replacing the whole blender?
