My washer pumps very little water in the drum when turned on then just sits there. It does not spin or wash. I unplugged it and plugged it back in to reset. After I turned it back on it made a clancking sound and and started smelling like something frying. Machine will still turn on but do as already mentioned above
This is several issues rolled into one. The clank noise is concerning and the smell could be the heating element for high wash temps. The other thing is the control module could be causing a lot of this. The water valves could be causing the fill issue and the clank could be the pulley on the drum. The bad thing is there are not a lot of parts for that machine as it was 13 years old. The control board is almost 300 dollars. Taking the time to trouble shoot it requires tools and patience . I had the same problem. After releasing the door and removing the wet clothes, I siphoned the water from the drum. Make sure that the water is turned off and the machine is unplugged, Then I opened the large black cap behind the round white cover on the surface. Be prepared to capture about half galon of water. This is the opening to the drain pump. In my case, there were some toys from my kids which had stuck in the turning part of the pump. I removed them and replaced the cap to the pump. Everything seemed to be OK after that.
I hope that this helps. Please be adivsed that I am not a repair person and proceed with caution and use common sense when dealing with electric appliances.
Good Luck
SOURCE: Bosch washing machine leaks at right bottom
The part that you removed, was the pump filter, the pump is located behind the filter, possibly, the pump itself is leaking, or the filter cover is not fastened in tight enough, pr the filter seal is defective, if after tightening, it still leaks, suggest you replace the pump.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

Remove the kicking plate on the front-bottom of the machine. You will see o circular lid there, turn it on anti-clockvise to open. All of the water blocked will come from there, be careful. Look carefully that there are some objects blocking the water draining. Then turn on the machine on draining programme, the plastic rotor should turn fastly when the machine is on. If it is not running, change the pump motor. If it is running, but machine is not draining again you can understand that there is an objeck stuck on the hose between drum and pump motor. Lay down the machine on its rear facade, you will see a large and black hose between drum and pump motor. When you remove it, you will see that there is something that blocks water running. Good luck :)

Always check to see if the water waste (located normally at bottom right) has no foreign objects in their such as bobby pins, coins etc It has happened to me 3 times (first time cost me $150)
SOURCE: washer drum doesn't spin, no draining of liquid
If you have got rid of all the water, and it still will not spin, then the odds are it is the brushes in the motor that need replacing.
Quite a common problem
