Sounds like your router is connected to the modem, but the modem is not connected to your ISP. Is this a new connection or a sudden problem? Unplug power to modem and router. Plug in modem first, then router. Do you need password for ISP? If connected, recommend downloading Netgear Genie for your WNDR3400.

SOURCE: can not connect to internet through wireless router...

First thing as ur able to access internet using ethernet cable, that indicates that ur router is fine. Now, also as u mentioned signal strength is excellent still its not getting connected, what u have to do is : click start then run type cmd and press enter it will open up command prompt or if ur using vista then click start >all programs> click accessories>right click command prompt>click run as administrator it will take u to the command prompt screen there  type ipconfig and press enter and check what is the ip address if ip address is like 169.254.----- then that it indicates that ur comp and router are not able to communicate wirelessly u have o set up a new wireless network. and if ip address is like 192.168.0.4 and default gateway is 192.168.0.2 then u don't require to setup a new connection  now in any case run this following command on the same command prompt window netsh int ip reset reset.log and press enter and then run this command netsh winsock reset catalog press enter it will ask u to restart and then restart the laptop after that try connecting if still not able to access internet then connect ethernet cable open internet explorer type in this address 192.168.0.1 and press enter it will ask for username and password that is admin and password respectively and it will take u to netgear settings  and from there setup a new wireles network......... try this if not able to do so revert to me.

put the default gateway code into your browser address bar.
if it requires a code, the name is admin and the password is password.
youll get to a web page, go to wireless settings.
type in the name of your roter in the first box (ssip or something)
if its already in there then im not sure what to do. just adjust the setttings in this area and it should work.

SOURCE: NETGEAR Wireless G USB Adaptor Problems

unlocking the network as in turn off encryption?i would try to connect to the router letting windows manage the connection because an ad-hoc(computer-computer)network is always very unreliable.i suspect you have the computer acting as a gateway wired to the router and you are trying to connect through the wi-fi adapter?ok start from scratch reset the router erase all the entries for your wireless connections in your computers/psp go in into the router set your ssid to a unique name; go to the computer with the adapter problem and view wireless networks and make sure you see the name of the network then go here for more instruction. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313242
connect wireless desktop computer first since it is the problem computer. then connect psp and wireless laptop sameway hopefully you can find enough useful info in that link.btw i work on wireless networks for a living i don't even mess with ad-hoc connections for longterm internet routing because a pc isn't a good router at all.

Cant get wifi unless I am a couple of inches from router. All other wifi devices work perfectly. I even downloaded the latest driver directly from Intel and problem still exists.

Having a wireless Internet signal in your home allows multiple devices to use the same Internet connection without having to run lengths of Ethernet cable to each device. Given that the wireless network is transmitted over the air, the consistency of your Internet connection depends on the strength of the wireless signal. If wireless signal strength is not strong enough to give you a consistent Internet connection, there are a few simple steps for finding the problem and improving your signal strength.

Reset all devices. The majority of Internet issues, including poor wireless signal strength, are very often solved by a simple power cycle of all the devices in the network. Locate the power cords of both your modem and your wireless router and remove them (if you use a modem/router combination, simply unplug the power to that device). Leave them unplugged for a full 30 seconds, plug them back in and restart your computer. When your computer fully reboots, check your wireless signal strength to see if it has improved. If it has not, further troubleshooting is required. Move your computer closer to your router, or your router closer to your computer. Wireless routers do not have unlimited range. One reason your computer may be getting a weak signal strength from your wireless network could be because your computer is simply outside of the router's range. Typically, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will install your modem in one specific location in the house and the modem will not work at other locations, so moving the modem or modem/router combination may not be a possibility. If this is the case, you may need to move the computer to a location that is within the range of the wireless router's broadcast. If you still get poor signal strength, your router may be experiencing a malfunction. Contact the technical support department of your router manufacturer. Router malfunctions often are not the result of a bad or broken router, but of something much simpler, such as the router's needing a firmware upgrade or an incorrect setting on the router's internal setup. If your router manufacturer is unable to improve your wireless signal strength, it may be time to purchase a new router. Purchase a new router. Wireless routers are priced in part based on how widely their wireless signal broadcasts (in other words, the more expensive the router you buy, the larger a wireless signal the router will broadcast). Included in the packaging of each wireless router is the approximated range, in square footage, of that router's wireless network. A good rule of thumb is to know the square footage of your house and buy a router that can accommodate that square footage. That way, as long as the router is functioning properly, you will have strong wireless signal strength throughout your entire home.

Router gives strong and weak signal in same place

If you think that your router signal is weak then you can follow the given points:

->Router positioning has an impact on the strength of a wireless signal. Brick walls and metal objects such as radiators, refrigerators and file cabinets can weaken a signal.

->Change the WiFi Channel

->Update firmware or drivers

->Reduce wireless interference

Computers have limited connection to linksys wrt54g although signal is full strength

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.
Also try resetting the wireless router by turning off the power to the wireless router for a few minutes and the boot up your computers.

Losing internet connection

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

Samsung NC10 will not connect to any network

If WLAN and Wireless cards are enabled, then you may have to unplug your router for 10 seconds to reset it. They tend to build up a static charge. Unplug wireless router for 10 seconds, plug back in and you should be fine in a minute or two with full connectivity

Have wireless signal but no IP

Starting from the obvious, check that the cables are installed correctly.
You have to have a cable that brings the internet to your place.
Connect that cable into the router's jack labeled Connection to Modem.
Then get another network cable and plug it into any other jack form the back of your wireless router, and the other end into your laptop, just to make sure you are getting connected.
Once you are sure you can surf the net, unplug the wire from your laptop, and you should be able to surf wirelessly.

And if you still can't connect, let me know to perform additional steps.

Please don;t forget to rate this answer if helps.
