Most fax machines would have a resolution selector to vary clarity of transmitted documents. The same would also hold true for scanning jobs. I would discount the possibility of the power supply since everything works except for the quality of the copy/fax. If the printer still works OK (quality of print out) then it is the scanner's availability to copy that is the issue. With current prices of all in one printers (fax/scanner), purchase of a new unit might be more practical not only in terms of cost but in downtime.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
This message means the memory capacity of the unit has been exceeded. The amount of memory used depends on the amount or type of data on the documents being faxed or copied.
If you get an "Out of Memory" message while scanning the first page of a fax, press Stop/Exit to cancel scanning.
If you get an "Out of Memory" message while scanning a subsequent page, you can either press Fax Start to transmit the pages that were scanned so far or press Stop/Exit to cancel the operation.
When Fax Storage is set to On, a copy of all received faxes are stored in the memory, thus using up a % of the memory available for other functions. The Fax Storage feature is utilized for Fax Forwarding, Fax Paging and Remote Retrieval. If you do not need these features, verify Fax Storage is set to Off by doing the following:
Press the Menu/Set key.
Press the arrow key until FAX appears on the LCD. Then, press Menu/Set.
Press the arrow key until REMOTE FAX OPT appears and then press Menu/Set.
Pressthe arrow key until FAX STORAGE and then press Menu/Set.
Check the setting. The display will read ON or OFF. If the setting is ON, press the arrow key until the display reads OFF.
Press Menu/Set.
If you have faxes stored in the memory, you will receive a message that reads Erase all fax? 1. Yes 2. No. If you want to erase all the faxes in the memory without printing them out, press 1 (Yes) and then press Stop/Exit.
Note
If you would like to reprint the saved faxes, press 2 (No), press Stop/Exit and continue to the following steps for instructions on how to print stored faxes.
If you do need the features that require Fax Storage to be On, the stored faxes will need to be erased or printed to remove them from the memory and to allow additional memory to be available. Follow these steps to print the stored faxes:
Press the Menu/Set key.
Press the arrow key until FAX appears on the LCD and press Menu/Set.
Press the arrow key until REMOTE FAX OPT appears and then press Menu/Set.
Press the arrow key until PRINT FAX or PRINT DOCUMENT appears and press Menu/Set.
First, scans and copies don't really use the computer. Can you print a document from your printer. If not, then your problem is within the computer.
If it does print then....
Try using the scan feature within the HP solution center. It works on mine but the scan button on the printer does. Also some art programs have and "ACQUIRE" feature under file to scan with. (Sometimes called TWAIN.)
Where the original page that you wish scanned/faxed there will be a device called a "scan part". This device "reads" the paper to be faxed/scanned as it passes. It usually is found very near where the paper to be faxed goes in. If there is a spec of debris on this part it will cause a fine line straight down the document. If its dirty, the document will be too! Just give it a good cleaning and you should be fine. Did this help? Click "FixYa" below! Thanks Len
Does this same thing happen if you just print a report out of it?
Here's the logic behind this.
If it happens on scanning or copying, but not on printing that's a problem with the scanning section.
If it happens on everything (scanning, printing etc) that's a problem with in the printer controls.
Usually on lasers, if it's printing related, the first thing to do is change the toner.
If the imaging drum (which is part of the toner cartridge) is damaged, it will leave lines down the page.
This is a fairly common problem on refilled toners.
If you have changed the toner, and it still does it, it's a different problem.
