As long as the print engine is not running, it will go to sleep. I believe it's OK

Setup as real time fax

None of the Brother machines print the image on a transmission report. It's a security thing so that someone else even the repair shop can't see what you are sending. If you go into reports and print the user settings it will tell you what the settings are and how to find them. Real time fax is in the advanced fax setup.

Lcd says sleep 10: 35 fax. What does that mean?

The machine goes into the sleep mode after the amount of time you set to conserve energy. It is sleeping and will wake if a fax comes in, fax tells you it is in the fax mode and not the manual mode or fax/tel mode. 10:35 is the time of day.

Usually you can touch any key on the keypad to wake it up. You might want to look in the owners manual to see how to adjust the enery star or sleep settings.
