Outside surfaces of freezer very hot to touch

I was given a Kenmore chest freezer, it appeared to be functioning properly and was still frozen inside when I took ownership of it. That was a week ago. Today I loaded it with several items, and went out to add another item. The sides and front of the freezer are almost too hot to touch! I can't tell if it is as cold inside as it should be. It's a very basic model with a dial on the side that goes from 1-7 for coldness.

Thank you! It is definitely keeping the contents frozen, so I am not going to fret over it. It's in my garage, which is very hot right now, so I guess that accounts for some of the warmth.

I just defrosted the upright freezer by Woods. I plugged it in and checked back later.  The inside is getting nice and cold, but the sides are HOT! Is this OK?  It is very hot in the garage here in Florida too! So, I am sure that affects it. But is this dengerous or defective?
Does the fact that the peg  legs are gone and it sits on the floor have anything to do with it somehow? Thanks..

out side of the freezer door is hot to touch and the inside is not very cold

There are horizontal bands of ice forming on the inside walls of the freezer, and some of the items in the upper baskets aren't as cold as the items below.

It should be warm to the touch but not so hot you cant. and also depending on how long the freezer is running and how warm it is where the freezer is will effect how hot the outside is. the reason the outside of the freezer is hot is because thats how the freezer releses its heat from the refrigerant. the longer it runs or the harder it has to work the more heat it has to hive off. so unless the freezer is not cooling there is nothing to worry about.

I just opened my deep freezer and heard the sound of running water. The outside is hot to touch. I'm theorizing that the last time it was opened it was not closed well, which is the cause of the hot outside and defrosting food. Could this be the case?

Just bought a bush bcf99l chest freezer. The red run (compressor) light has stayed on and the front of the freezer is quite hot to the touch is this normal?

normal if it is the outside surface that is warm
as that is the condenser exchanging the heat through a panel
the compressor will run for a period until the heat inside the compartment is brought down
Experience has proved that to get any fridge /freezer to work well , place a bowel of water in first as that gives a heat source to cool down and it will do so more quickly that just an empty volume

My kenmore chest freezer is the garage, the temperature outside is over 30 celsius, the side of the freezer where the motor is is very hot, and some other places on the front and other side is warm to the...

The hot sides is normal, this is how they expel the heat from inside the freezer, sometimes it may help to use a fan to help cool. Also make sure there is about 12" of room around all sides of the freezer .

We have a general electric 20 cu ft chest freezer. the outside becomes hot to the touch is this normal?

Yes, the freezer / refrigerator is a heat pump, it transfers heat from the inside to the outside. Heat transfer effitiance is reduced if the outside is at hight temperature, so it is sudgested to allow free air flow for the back of the cooling device (where the radiator is )

The front surface of the chest freezer is

Hi, can you put your hands on front of freezer, and check from 1 to 5 without getting burn? how long can you keep your hands on front of freezer? check from 1 to 20 and let me know, normally there's a condensate line, or part of condenser lines that passes through freezer body , purpose of those condensate line is to prevent your door gasket from freezing , especially during winter. It's normal for front of freezer to be warmed, on hot days it will be a little hotter, you said "very hot" makes me wonder how hot it is, put your hands on front of freezer, use number method and let me know, but it's normal. good luck.

Freezer stops and start

ice cream is always the last to freeze and a temp of minus -10 degrees is usually required to get it to get hard. if you put the ice cream in the door it will be especially tough to freeze. a good thermometor is a good investment as you can observe the temps. usually ten degrees or 20 degrees is what they run. yes they do cycle on and off as long as they hold temps thats good. the outside of the freezer gets warm because the hot compressed refrigerant is spread through piping near its surface giving up its heat of compression . setting the stat to max will freeze the ice cream eventually but utility bill suffers . good luck

Freezer is freezing but the outer wall are extremly hot

This is a normal condition.  The condensor coils are in the cabinet and their job is to remove heat which is why it is hot.  You will want to make sure the freezer isn't in a tight spot where air from the room can't flow across it.  Without good air flow it will become too hot and not cool properly and lead to the compressor failing too soon.
