Toshiba Satellite a215-s7437 will not boot at all - black screen

I have had this laptop for a little over a year and about a month ago I started getting the mysterious black screen. I would hold down the power button to shut it down and then when I restarted it, it would start fine. About 2 weeks ago, the shut-down and restart method stopped working, so I would shut it down, remove the battery, replace it and then it would restart. I did some searching online and found a couple of places that said I needed to update the BIOS. So went to the Toshiba site and downloaded the BIOS update. At the end of the update, it shut down. When I tried to restart it, I got NOTHING! I've tried removing the battery, unplugging it, etc.and still nothing. I got out the master recovery CD and tried it. The CD drive would spin for a second when I tried to turn on the system and held 'C' but still I just had a black screen.

My plug in light is on, the power light comes on, and the battery light is on, but the hard drive light NEVER comes on and I can't hear it 'churning'. However the fan is always on if it's plugged in or if the battery is in.

Does anyone have ANY suggestions? I've searched everywhere and found nothing to help.

Thanks,
Julie i cannot get my toshiba satellite a215-s4747 to load. it shows a blank black screen and it make a sort of clicking sound as it loads

I'm not sure what the last part of the message, above, means. Going from that alone, the hard drive is bad. But the first part says the hard drive doesn't spin up (but you really can't hear a hard drive spin in a laptop).
When you turn on the computer, do you get anything at all on the screen?

I've have this same issue and have been able to occasionally get it to boot. When it did fire up I checked the drive with HD Tune and it said everything was working. When mine boots the drive light flashes for a second and nothing comes on.

It sounds like two possible things. One thing may be that your screen is not working anymore. Can you get a monitor and plug it into your port located on the side of your laptop? If your screen pops up on the monitor this tells us your screen is either in need of replacement or a connection may be loose.

If that is not the case......

Another thing is your hard drive may not be initiating. If you feel confident enough I would open the back where the hard drive is located and make sure the hard drive is not loose. Does it give you any beeping sounds when you turn it on? Can you count the number of beeps? This will tell you what the problem is on boot up. Also, is it a black screen with a cursor blinking?

I don't believe it is the screen I'm having this same issue I've ordered an external enclosure to check the drive on a seperate machine. To me the drive isn't gettting power either switch or motherboard. There seems to be a lot of heat the few times that I have been able to get it to fire up there has been alot of heat internally. I feel it has to be lack of power issue most likely a bad power button.

Toshiba C655s5120 black screen

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Toshiba Satellite a215-s7437 will not boot at all - black screen

I think I have the answer you are looking for.  Plug your laptop into an external monitor. Once you do that you need to set your power/performance settings to high performance. It is  turning the display off because some of the processing needed to display images are not available when not in high performance. I hope this helps, let me know how you make out,
Good luck.

Toshiba Satellite A215-S7437 Laptop Password Problem?

You should first check if the pasword is set on the hard drive. If so you can simply change the hard drive and it will then boot and ask for the operating system disk. If not, you should try by removing the cmos battery and waiting at least 10 minutes. (this works on older laptops) however, the laptop's power suply cable and battery should be removed prior to performing this procedure.
