I have a Schumacker Model 1052A-PE Trickle/Battery charger/Engine
start rated at 2/10/50 A.
I want to charge a 80 AH car battery. When I put the charger on the
battery the following occurs:
1) No charger connected Battery Voltage = 5.62 V
2) Charger connected but not on Battery Voltage = 2.45 V
3) Charger on at 2A position Battery Voltage = 13.33 V
4) Charger on at 10A position Battery Voltage = 14.23 V
5) Charger on at 50A position Battery Voltage = 15.93 V
At any of these positions, the charger Ammeter always reads zero. It
never gives a reading other than zero. The meter gives a little "bip"
near zero when I change from 2A to 10A. I can always hear the
transformer hum.
Am I charging the battery? I can leave the charger on over night and
the battery never reads 12V.
Do I have a bad battery that won't take a charge, or a bad meter that
won't indicate current or a bad battery charger?
Thank you for your help.

You are charging. The meter corresponds to the level of charge in the battery. Try setting to 10 A for 4 hours, battery should be half-way up. To determine if battery id dead.. leave battery off charger once it is fully charged...test with a voltmeter after 10 min.....battery should still be above 12v...after1 hour it should still be above 12v...if not battery is spent.

Unfortunately, that's not what the manual says. It says on the 10
A setting, the meter should start out reading 10A and then gradually
taper off as the battery charges.
