Duo core motherboards will not support the bus speed or the power output to power on that processor. You need to upgrade the motherboard with the new processor.
You did not post what operating system you have. There are a lot of things that can cause a computer to run slow. RAM is big issue More so than the CPU. The series of CPU that you have is upgradeable by 4 models but the gains are modest. There is also an issue of availability of the processor because that model is 12 years old. Another issue that you need to look into is the programs that are running when the system starts.
This server direct not boot by windows cd.... and u any time install window u lose the all data....because they have scsi hard drive and configuring bydefault Raid 5 ......so plz make backup before u start this prosiger.......Dell providing u lots of cd's check it this cd "installation and server management" bootable cd put this cd into your cd rom drive...and i am giving u link that how to complete install window in this server.
What type of chipsetup your motherboard has and up to what bus speed its supports, what processor speed now u use and what model is your server, most server main boards supports two processors please lets us know what model server u got
