If your battery will not charge, you need to run a test on some components on the laptop. The battery, the charger and the laptop itself. Once you detect the faulty conponent then you replace it
with a new one.
To test the battery:
1.Power off the laptop,
2.Take out the battery,
3.Insert it in another laptop,
4.Check of it will charge,
If the battery holds a charge there, then it means the problem is not from the battery, but if it does not hold a charge, then it means the battery is defective and need to be replaced with a new one.
To test the laptop:
1.Turn off the laptop,
2.Disconnect your present
charger,
3.Remove your present battery pack,
4.Insert a well tested battery into the laptop,
5.Connect a well tested charger to the laptop.
I already thought of that one myself, but what clarification do you need? If it is indeed the new HP battery, then there must be a way of proving or confirming it.
As you can see in the write-up, I installed the new battery, and it went up from 25% to 30% max in the computer. (First step of re-calibration) I removed the charger lead and it discharged slowly until the computer closed down. (second step) That is as far in the re-calibration process I got. Now the battery does not charge as explained above.
I am an Engineer and a Project Manager.
When I normally look at a problem, I define ways to apply specific tests to prove the location of the fault or problem. Following this analysis, I devise ways to correct that fault. That is what I was hoping for from this forum.
In the event, I did the following: -
1) Check the battery in another computer for charging. It did!
2) I charged it to 10% in order to overcome any discrepancies in the low voltage charging inhibition between computers and attempted a re-charge again on my own computer. Result - about 1-2% increase in charge in the battery indicated before cutout of charge again. By this method of removal and replacement of the battery it now stands at 26% charged and rising slowly as re-booting etc takes place.
3) I then referred to the HP website, and learned that I may have a problem with corrupt software in the charging circuit somewhere, and I ought to re-install Vista on a clean disk to ascertain whether or not that is the problem. if it is, then at that stage it will be solved.
Any comments please?
