Magnavox t.v. Model # TS2760 C101 with black box on screen

I have a Magnavox t.v. Model # TS2760 C101, purchased in 1995. I'm getting a large black box on the screen that covers 90% of the screen. The box goes away when I adjust the volume, but it comes right back. Any idea what's wrong or how to fix?

Thank you! Going into the closed caption setting and changing it to "off" seemed to do the trick. Don't know how the problem arose on its own in the first place, but your solution looks good. Thanks, again.

Hello,

To fix this problem you need to go to the text probably in
the closed caption or thereabouts. Go to the text highlight it and cut the text OFF

It is very simple to cut the text off...a little practice and persistance and you
will find it.

Black box on screen

Without a picture of it it's hard to say what you mean. Sometimes on a CRT TV the vertical scan doesn't fill the screen, but that would cause a black band both top and bottom. The usual cause is a capacitor drying out. But only a qualified tech should look into that.

I might contact a local TV Service Shop, they usually keep ones that people don't wish to repair. They just might have a screen for you.

You can get a repair kit for the shrinking/expanding on www.magnavoxhelp.com. This is a common problem with this model.

Magnavox Projection Model # 9P5034 C101

Yes you will need to discharge any electrical equipment before working. One way of doing this is keep equ. unplugged for sometime or after unplug short hot to ground which will most times cause a spark. You can go to vancebaldwin.com or andrewelectronics.com or any online parts store and get the part number off old IC, yes these are on the convergence module. They are big STK's, also there are resistors that will need to be changed and maybe pico fuses.
