The instructions above are really helpful. You can also remove the flap without bending it.
1. Turn the mower to its right side like the above instructions.
2. The wheels are joined by a metal bar or axle. The axle is attached to the mower by 2 small brackets.
3. Remove 4 screws and 2 brackets, and pull only the left wheel (top one) out a bit. Break the old glue. Slide the flap out. The flap should have enough clearance to slide out without hitting the wheel or bending it.
4. Slide the new flap in place.
5. Move the wheel back.
6. Replace 4 screws and 2 brackets.
1. Push the mower down to its lowest mowing position.
2. Turn it up on its right side, so the left side is in the air.
3. The existing flap is held in place with a glob of glue at the left (now top) end. Remove the glue by whatever means you like. I "chiseled" at it with taps from a flap-blade screwdriver and hammer.
4. Now you can slide the remnants of the old flap out and slide the new one in. You'll have to bend it slightly even with the mower in its lowest position to get it past the wheel, but it shouldn't be close to breaking.
5. Replace the glob of glue with whatever you have handy that plays well with plastic and rubber. By coincidence I already had DAP Alex Ultra 230 Black loaded in my caulk gun - worked fine.
The flap does not bend enough for it to slide past the wheel.
