The machine has a mind of its own! Not responsive to buttons, will not turn off and turns on by itself, changes cycles on its own. A service man indicated that the motherboard needed to be replaced and would cost over $450. Question? Can I purchase the non garanteed motherboard part and install it myself to save money. or should I purchase a new (need recommendation) washing machine?
We are considering the Whirlpool duet 4.0 and the Miele ($$$$)?
Barry, sounds more like the keypad is stuck or shorted. You can try to do a membrane test by putting it into the service mode. Have the unit on, press and hold the delicates and heavy soil key together until it shows 00 on the display. Then press the wrinkle free key. This will let you test every key on the keypad. You can toggle them off and on and see if they are responding. If they are not responding then you can assume that the keypad is your problem. At repairclinic.com you can order the part you need and if it doesn't solve the problem they will take it back no questions asked. A lot of people are not too fond of these washers because of the many issues they had with them. You would have to weigh the price of the part versus a new washer. The keypad is not hard to install. Just a ribbon that plugs into the board. You may want to try to clean the end of the ribbon with a eraser and see if that fixes the problem. Make sure the unit is unplugged before going in there.
