Kenmore 80 series washer not spinning/draining

My top load washer stops after the rinse cycle. It does not make any noise, it just does not spin and then it will not drain either. I do hear a "click" when I put the lid down. Model number is 20892990. Please help!

The washer is currently full w/ water. Can I fix the lid switch with water still in it? If not, how do I get the water out??

Model number is 20892990. It's a top load series 80 Kenmore. It's not spinning anymore. When you push the start button, you can hear what I think is the motor spinning, making a ratcheting sound but nothing else happens. I'm thinking there's something wrong with the transmition. If so how can I fix it? Can I replace a gear inside?

Kenmore series 80 washer won't drain after wash cycle

Try the 'drain' portion of a few of the other cycles (heavy, perm. press, delicates) and see if it will drain/spin there. You can also try advancing the timer slowly through the 'spin' portion to see if it kicks in anywhere.

If it will rinse and spin in the other cycles, you most likely have a bad timer.

Hope this helps.

Kenmore 80 series top load washer. In the permanent press mode the machine will stop when it moves to the rinse mode. I can manually move the time past the midpoint of the cycle it will run for a minute...

So it will spin and drain when put in the spin cycle right? More than likely it is your timer if you have to keep manually setting. I would check on timer prices and go from there.

Kenmore 80 series washing machine - won't stop filling with water on rinse cycle - never moves to next cycle - if I stop machine and manually move to spin, the machine does spin and the water drains

Your air pressure tube going to the water level switch is pinched or stopped up,OR, the water level switch is going bad.
Use this manual to access these parts and diagnose which is bad.

Won't complete cycle, stops at rinse. and can't get hot water.

Are you on well water? turn off the cold water to the washer and clean the screen filter out. do not leave filter out.
the machine probably has a cold only final rinse so it won't work properly.

Kenmore 70 series Washer will not go to spin cycle

Check the lid switch. That is a VERY common problem on these models.
