This is greasy rust. It's not uncommon. Whats causing it is a bad tub bearing. I rate replacing it a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being the hardest.

I had a similar problem with my Kenmore front loader. Turned out that the rubber lining around the door was trapping dirty, soapy water causing a nasty residue to collect. That residue got onto the clothes. I cleaned the rubber liner and now keep the washer door open between uses. I still occasionally wipe down the rubber liner with a wet rag. Problem seems to have been solved.
I have been getting brown stains in the shape of a line on items of clothing washed in my Whirlpool duet washer. I can not get these stains out with anything and they are ruining numerous items of clothing. I have no idea what is causing them - I have manually cleaned the inside of the washer. same thing here. I have been having this problem for a few weeks, cant wash anything white without ruining it.
If it's gunk or build up the marks should wash away. In this case run a long cycle using "affresh" or "washer fresh" with an empty load and use the hottest water available to help rinse the gunk out.
If the marks do not wash away, it could be grease due to a bearing failure. Listen for loud growling or grinding either by spinning the drum by hand or putting it into a spin cycle. If this is the case, the rear tub assembly (contains bearing) will need to be replaced. Not much can be done about the ruined clothes :(
I don't think the washer is at fault; the clue is 'Used very little.' I think the rust is originating in the water pipes serving the washer.
The only help there is to run one machine with no clothes in it (wasting water) or putting splitters on the faucets and flushing the lines into a sink or other drain.
To remove rust stains from WHITE (!) clothing and many synthetics, buy a product named 'Whink.' It is available in many drug stores, super markets, etc. in the area where one finds other laundry items.
It is fairly safe to use (with precautions) but keep out of reach of kids.
