I believe the LS models have to be collimated by Meade.

Hi Glenn

I would recommend the DS2000 should be DS2114 AT. The AT
refers to the use of the autostar hand box. This is a helpful tool for the beginner. Once you learn how to align the scope the computer will guide you around, helping you become familiar with the orientation of objects in the sky.

You can call Meade customer service and see if they will sell you this small part-- probably called a dovetail mount--

These can be bought from several different places if you know exactly what you need.

SOURCE: Meade, model: 6600, 6", need instruction manual & eye pieces

Sorry about Meade's responses, but their website has a download section for the telescope manuals - you may not find one that matches exactly, as they produce hundreds of models, but one that is close should suffice. As for eyepieces, there are several good vendors out there; Orion Telescopes, Meridian etc. Just check the barrel size; either .965" (Japanese standard) or 1.25" (American standard).

SOURCE: I can't get my Meade

Even if the scope is a little out of collimation it should still focus. Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. DO NOT use a 2x barlow if you have one.

Try again--- you can do this during the day time on a distant object and practice turning the focus knob slowly left and or right until you get a sharp image.

The higher the magnification the smaller the "sweet spot" with the focuser.

Meade etx-ls fails to level itself correctly. It successfully identifies it's location (GPS) and finds north, but points down at about 30 degrees when it supposed to be level.

Have you done a Calibrate motors and a TRAIN drives. Also have you done a Calibrate sensors on Polaris? Read the manual--- and follow the setup routine exactly. Daylight Savings Time = YES right now.

The images of deep sky objects (such as M31 M8 ...) I get with my LXD75 (SN 8") are faint. The images of the solar system (Moon, Jupiter...) are decent. Should I proceed to a collimation ?

NO- the objects are much dimmer than the planets and your camera must take a LONGER exposure to get an image.

Collimation makes stars and planets "sharper" but NOT BRIGHTER.

Many deep sky objects require 10-15 minute exposures!

Blury Meade DS 90mm refracting telescope.

Did you break the mirror? --- or did you knock it out of alignment with the small secondary mirror in the front of the tube?

Contact someone at a local astronomy club to help you with collimation on the scope if nothing is broken.

Poor viewing

You don't state if the collimation is a plain view through the back plate at the sky, or with an evepiece. The description that you gave suggests that that is a view through the telescope back without an eyepiece. The images in the Meade manual are at high power (200x) on either side of focus. What you want to see is circular rings around a star on either side of the best focus point. If the rings are not concentric, then the collimation is off. Other factors can affect the clairity of the image, such as dirt on the optics (need to be really bad to affect the image), or you may be using a poor quality eyepiece.
