Windows 8 apps NOT opening

None of my apps are working including the online store, when I click it just doesn't open. My internet is working and also the names of all the apps are weird. The maps app is called Appexmaps, the photos app is called Microsoft.WindowsLive.ModernPhotos and the weather app is just "app".

SOURCE: I keep getting error notices when I try to open various apps

Hi Julie,

The problem encountered is a launchd problem (that's it's technical term!) and generally is due to too many apps or processes running for your mac to cope with. I would suggest getting more memory. In the meantime here are a few things to check on.

  • Press F12 to bring up the widgets and hold down the alt key. This will display a cross in the top left of all the widgets running. Close down all unneeded widgets by clicking thier x.
  • Use Cmd-Tab and hold the Apple key to display a list of all the apps running. Switch between them by hitting the Tab key again and then use Cmd-Q to close down any you no longer need running
  • If you don't need to connect to any Windows PCs in your vacinity go to the Apple in the top left and then System Prefs. In there click on Sharing in the Third row down. In the Sharing Prefs select FileSharing from the list on the left an click the Options button that appears bottom right. In there make sure both Share using FTP and SMB are unchecked then click Done.
The last of those (the one for Windows Sharing) is the one that will probably have the most effect on your system but do them all anyway. You can also use Cmd-Alt-ESC which brings up a list of running apps that you can force quit from if they don't shut down normally or hang (Not Responding) although this is often a last resort.

But more memory is what you really need.

All the best

SOURCE: ASUS Eee 2G surf. changing to google Crome and deleting unwanted

Go into add/remove programs in the control panel or if your running windows 7, go into programs and features and from there you can remove all the programs you don't want on the hard drive.

Then go ahead and download google chrome. You'll have all enough hard drive space left to do things. You won't be able to remove Internet Explorer because thats part of the operating system.

Windows 8.1 store app works but all other apps only open to taskbar including change PC settings

You might try installing a $ 4.99 program called " Start8 " It will install a real start-up button very similar to the Windows 7 start button. You can find it with any search engine.
( I am in no way affiliated with the makers of this program, I just use it and find it makes the Windows 8 and 8.1 OS much more usable, I wouldn't use 8 or 8.1 without it)

Be sure to disable your anti-virus protection before checking for updates. This very well may be your problem.
or

I suggest changing the settings of your automatic updates as that may trigger it to do this for you.

Then disable any other programs that you can by right-clicking the icon in the system tray (next to the time, bottom-right corner of monitor) and selecting 'exit' or 'quit' or something like that.

If you are having a lot of trouble, you can get ahold of Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/protect/compute... too.

To change any settings related to Microsoft Update, go to http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security... .

Besides that, I recommend erasing the cookies and internet data. Click START > CONTROL PANEL > INTERNET OPTIONS. Then in the 'general' tab, click DELETE and erase all of the cookies and temporary internet files and such.

If that doesn't work, try rebooting your machine and tap F8 until you get the boot selection menu. Select "Windows Safe Mode with Networking". Try to go online again and see if you can download updates with that configuration.

If it still doesn't work, you can try disabling your browser add-ons that are installed in Internet Explorer. To do this, click START > ALL PROGRAMS > CONTROL PANEL. Open up INTERNET OPTIONS.

Click the GENERAL tab (if not open). Under "Browsing history", click DELETE... and then DELETE ALL. Put a check next to "Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons.". Click YES.

While still in the Internet Properties dialog box, click the SECURITY tab. At the bottom of the window, click RESET ALL ZONES TO DEFAULT LEVEL.

Now click the PRIVACY tab. Click the DEFAULT button (unless you are unable to). There is a good chance that it may be unavailable, meaning that you are currently at the recommended privacy settings already.

you might have to many programs trying to or accessing your computer or the internet at the same time or a virus
scroll to bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click select task manager

applications you will see whats running
if you see anything you dont need running select end now and you might uninstall that specific

program if you or computer does not require it to run and
some unnecessary programs that could be jamming up your computer

also under processes see what is ticking over in the background again if you see something you

dont need to be running select end now
