Is there any frost buildup on the rear panel inside the freezer? If so you have a defrost problem of a bad defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer/ control board. If no frost then you probably have a clogged defrost drain. Remove the rear panel to access drain hole.

Its defrost problem. Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 24 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. the heater unit might be weak and usualy it is a hlogen light that need to be replace , so the defrost will be better

This freezer coil is likely froze over. this is because its stopped its automatic defrost. The thing to do is remove freezer panal and see if evaporator is froze over. if so, derost it..this will give you temp service. there is a fan midway in freezer..its possible its not running as well and this is the problem. see if fans coming on while you have it apart.

Air circulation problem. Evaporator fan in freezer moves some air to refrig. Either fan is not working or air passages are blocked with ice. If ice found, then a defrost component failure has occurred. Fix what you find.

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

Really need to know what motor(s) are running (compressor, evap fan inside freezer compartment, condenser fan under fridge)?? Of course, check your temperature (thermostat) settings. Side-by-sides usually have 2 of them. They should be labled for refridgerator and freezer. The freezer control usually only opens a baffle from the freezer compartment to the refridge compartment. The refrigerator temp control is the one that controls the compressor on-off cycles and the temp of refrig compartment (this keeps the refrig compartment from freezing the milk and cokes) If the freezer control/baffle is set too far open, this will cause the refrig temp control to shut off too soon for the freezer temp to get low enough. These controls can get bumped out of the correct setting accidently from time to time.
To check the following, the fridge has to be running, or in a condition where it "should be" running: If compressor is running (condenser fan should be too), check if evaporator fan (inside freezer) is running. Open (freezer) door and hold door light switch in when you check evaporator fan operation (some fans stop when door is open) If it is not running you may have a bad evaporator fan motor. It could also be a bad defrost timer, causing the evaporator (also inside back of freezer) to ice-up. This blocks the air flow over evap. Also, there is a defrost terminator switch on the evaporator coil that stops the defrost cycle when coil is clear of ice/frost (but timer hasn't ended defrost cycle). If it is defective, that could also keep the fridge from going into the defrost cycle, or taking it out too soon. If it is the timer, change the defrost terminator as well. Depending on how handy you are, you may be able to check/change any of these parts yourself. If you don't know much about elecrical stuff, you should leave it to a repair tech. Hope this helps.

you need a drain tube heater.it is like a chain fence tie made from alluminum,you can actually use the fence ties,wrap one side around defrost heater and stick the other side in drain.that will prevent it from happening again

Unfortunately, the evaporator fan has probably frozen in water trapped in the defrost drain. This seems to be a common problem with these GE bottom freezer models. You can shut it off for 12-14 hours and leave the doors open and it will thaw and drain into the freezer compartment. But you probably have food that you would need to put into another refridgerator to do this. Another option is to take out the bottom liner of the refridgerator to do this - I had a service man do it the first time it happened - he then used hot water and a hair drier to get rid of the ice that was stopping the fan. Unfortunately, it seems once this problem starts happening, it will continue to reoccur and I have not found a long term solution yet
