At the end of the season last year I had issues getting my deck to engage. I could get it to engage by wiggling the connectors in the wiring to the deck. I went out the other day and was able to engage the deck but then it dis-engaged by itself and I am now unable to engage it. Now when I pull the deck button to engage it, it sounds like it wants to but can't. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Try putting a jumper wire on the wire going from the engine to the seat. Take that plug and put a wire from one side to the other. Be careful not to cut your feet off when engaging deck.

you need to start with your electric clutch and then backwards to your idler pulleys and deck spindles and bearings.
your electric clutch should almost stop the blades instantly when disengaged ,check the center bolt in the clutch to be sure it is tight also
remove the belt from the electric clutch and energize clutch any noise? sometimes the bearing goes bad in the clutch itself.
check all of your 3 spindles for noise and loose. remove belt and spin by hand and listen for quiet and they should turn free with no binding
check blade tightness
any item the belt goes around needs to be looked at for secure and operable.

try unplugging the pto then start the mower next engage the blades and see if the fuse blows if it does the problem lies in the mowers wiring if not the problem lies in the pto. hope this helps

Sounds like you electric blade clutch is bad. I just had the same thing happen to my exmark mower. I was cutting grass and the engine just shut down. It would not crank over. Checked the fuses and replaced one blown fuse. The engine wanted to crank over but it was locked up. I looked the engine over and seen that the bearing in the electric clutch seized up causing the clutch to melt.
