Bernina has feet that are specific to their machines only. They have old and new style feet depending when the machine was made. You cannot put generic low, high, slant or snap on feet on a Bernina sewing machine.

Foot control units do go bad. Difficult to say what it could be. Some older Berninas have a capacitor in the foot control which fail. Also, some Berninas have carbon brushes that wear out. It's like a pencil lead, after use, it gets worn down so that it no longer makes contact. If you are mechanical, you may be able to find instructions and replacement parts online. Otherwise, talk to your Bernina technician.

FWIW, there are some Bernina user groups on Yahoo. One is called BerninaThirtySomethings (older Bernina "30 models) that has a lot of knowledgeable and active members who may be able to provide assistance, You will need to have a Yahoo email account and then request admission to the group before posting any questions or viewing the conversations.

The presser foot pressure is not adjustable on the 900 Nova and is not necessary with any Bernina models from the 117L through the 1630 series. If the presser foot bar is sticking so that it is sluggish to respond to the needle plate, the presser bar and bushings will need to be cleaned of oil varnishes in order to function properly. (99.9% of the problem)
The other potential problem although unusual, is that the machine frame has been damaged from a drop or impact, causing the presser bar frame bearings to be out of alignment, hence a sticking shaft condition. You do not want to attempt to correct this as you will likely ruin the machine. Suggest contacting a specialist

Usually the Niva is a model 900 or a Model 1008 is not a nova?
If a model 900 there is a small hole in the bottom of machine that a small screwdriver can be inserted to rotate the speed regulator

If it is not working > bring the machine and the control to a Bernina shop for them to check, maybe it is the cord, maybe the control.

If you lost it you need to go to a Bernina shop and buy a new control and a new cord.

You will need to go a bernina dealer to by those pins the part number is 325 355 031 and each pin cost around $4.00 each

My "new" Bernina 900 (I just bought it) has another foot pedal than Bernina that is perfect : a YDK !
