Bowflex 1090 selectech fault

I have a bowfex 1090 selectech, only 4 months old. I have found that the large weight nearest to the handle drops out when shaken. Sometime it just falls out. Ive noticed that there tends to be more movement between the handle and the first weight. Obviously a manufacturing fault and maybe many others are having the same problem. I live in a remote area hence unable to use manufacturers garantee. I just want to know how I can fix it!!

I'm having the same issue. Took a look at mine and you'll see fins that hold the weights in place. I'm guessing that yours is cracked like mine. This crack allows the tab that holds the weight in place to slide away from the weight causing the weight to drop out. I spoke with bowflex yesterday and they told me to try removing the logo end caps and tighten the bolts there, but in the process I found the problem I described earlier. If you are going to try tightening the bolt, make sure that you remove both endcaps and tighten both sides as they are connected and will just spin if you don't.

The cable end that goes into the weights falls about a foot short with weights flat to the floor. Cable will not reach plug in first weight that cable end screws into. All the cable routing seems correct on system. Others have posted same problem but I cannot find an answer.

If you have an issue with the SelectTech dumbbells of any kind, just contact the customer service phone number 1-800- BOWFLEX. All they require is a proof of purchase (receipt) to be sent in and they will send you any replacement parts free of charge. You do not need to send the old parts back first.

The problem is that the composite disc or "circle" on the handle that holds the weight is cracked or damaged, thus allowing more play for the disc to move and by pass the teet on the weight itself.

I own these also, and I should have done some more research before purchasing them. I believe that a new handle (which is what bowflex will sell you) will exceed $100.

These things are not suited for the higher weights.

Both of my handles are screwed. I will be getting a set of Iron Masters in the future rather than repair these.

I hope this helps

I agree. The weights are not suited for the higher weights.

The parts are cheaply made. The pin mechanism is cheap plastic. Not strong enough to withstand higher weights.

I do no recommend these. The handles mess up and are rediculously priced to replace.

I bought a pair of 1090's brandnew from bowlflex which are priced on the high end. Infact they are expensive. Expensive because they are supposed to be well made to last years without the problems I have experienced and read about. Thanks to you and everyone who contributed the knowledge on Fixya. Thumbs Up!! Thanks!! Great Help!!!!

Selector knob spins, no clicks, does not select the weights. The metal disk near the handle does not move.

1. Check to assure that the ******** handle is fully depressed into the ******** base. If not fully depressed, the locking mechanism will not be released and may be keeping the adjustment knobs from rotating. 2. Check to see if any weight plates have been put into the base assembly backwards with the "support ******" facing the grip of the ******** handle. All weight plates must have the selection ****** facing away from the grip of the ******** handle. 3. Check to see if there is any dirt, debris or other obstruction in the ******** base. You may need to remove the weight plates from the base to accomplish this check. Remember to put each weight plate back in its appropriate location with the selection ****** facing away from the ******** grip.

Once the dumbell is on the base the dial will not spin so you can not pick up any weights. I can push the putton on the bottom when I am holding the unit with out any wieghts and the dial will spin but...

Try setting the handle in the plates back onto the carrier(bottom). Lightly tap on each plate that is stuck. Now push the plates down (vertically) onto the bottom carrier. Now try turning the dial (side that was stuck). It worked for me. Have my 1090 plates were stuck on the handle. Good luck

Bowflex Select Tech will not come out of base. Is there a lock or some mechanism that won't allow leaving base?

One of the weights is most likely a little off in the base. To unstick, remove the four screws on the base, then the two screws on clip. Handle will then remove.

Selecttech 1090 Dumbbells: the end caps that adjust the weight are stfrozen, ...

Just call Bowflex. If you don't want to call here's the solution. There is a reset button on the bottom of the handle. Take the handle out, place on the floor side ways, depress the square button and turn to 5 lbs. Whatever weights that were on handle will fall out. Place the weights back into the holder. Make sure they are positioned correctly then put the handle back. Then test by dialing up different weight settings and lifting the ******** out of the holder. You should be back in business. If that doesn't work call Bowflex which you should do anyway.

Have boweflex selecttech dumbbells and one set will not turn dial and change weights please contact me at [email protected] and advise me how to get this repaired thank you

Either the handle is broke or try making sure all the weights are facing right way (same way) or the handle will not sit all the way down. It needs to sit all the way down for the button on the bottom of the handle to be pushed to release the adjuster to be able to spin and grab weights.

One of the weight disks slipped and will not lock how to make it lock again

place the weights back on the stand and make sure that all the weight plates are facing outward. you can verify this by looking at the bottom of the disks there are small little square protruding out make sure they face away from the handle. if they dont lock into place after this then someone in the valves must be broken. good luck!
