My CD rom is not working

No matter what type of laptop you own or how you use it, the CD-ROM or DVD drive is an important part of the unit. With the CD or DVD drive in place, you can play your favorite music or watch your favorite movies, so when that CD or DVD player stops working it is important to get it back in service as soon as possible.

1.Locate the bypass hole on the CD-ROM drive. There is a very small hole, generally located underneath the eject button, on every CD-ROM drive. Unbend a paper clip and insert it into the hole until the CD tray pops out.
2.Remove any CD that is in the tray and replace it with a CD laser lens cleaner. These laser lens cleaners are available at computer shops and electronics retailers.
3.Run the laser lens cleaning program, then try to play a CD again. If that CD fails to play, replace it with another CD and try again.
4.Shut the computer down and remove the AC power cord if cleaning the laser lens does not resolve the issue. Turn the laptop upside down and slide the battery release lever to the unlocked position.
5.Remove the battery and set it aside. Then locate the screws that hold the CD-ROM drive in place and remove those screws. Slide the CD-ROM drive out of the bay, then slide it back into the bay until it snaps securely into place. Replace the screws that hold the drive in place, turn the laptop back on and try to read the CD again.
6.Log on to your computer and right click on the "My Computer" icon. Select "Properties" from the menu and click on the "Hardware" tab. Click the "Device Manager" button and expand the CD-ROM section. Right click on the CD-ROM and choose "Update Driver" from the menu to download and install the latest device driver from the CD-ROM manufacturer.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya

I want to replace my acer laptop Cd rom , from where can i remove old one

Hi,

Here are the steps on how to remove your old CD-ROM so you can replece it.

Remove all power sources from the laptop. This should include not only the AC power adapter but also the battery.

Locate and remove the screw that locks the CD-ROM in place. Some laptops may have two screws that serve this function. In addition, many will also have a sliding switch that needs to be moved in order to remove the drive.

Slide the drive out gently. It should easily come out and does not require excessive force.

Replace the defective CD-ROM drive by sliding the new one gently into place in the laptop bay, the same way the old one came out. Again, excessive force should not be applied. The drive will only fit into the bay one way.

Secure the CD-ROM drive in place by replacing the screws that were removed previously. Reconnect all power supplies to the laptop and power it on. If the replacement CD-ROM is the exact same make and model as the previous one, the system will probably recognize it right away. If it is a different make or model it will prompt you to supply the appropriate software and drivers to optimize the use of the new CD-ROM drive.

How to replace CD-ROM in Medion MD40566

Generally what you will need to do is first open the computer case. Then you will see 2 screws on each side of the CD-Rom Drive. You will need to remove these screws. Now you should be able to slide the CD-ROM forward away from the front of the case. Before you completely remove it you will need to remove the cables at the back of the CD-ROM before removing them note the position of them. Now that the CD-ROM is removed bring it to the store and ask the associate for the correct replacement. Once you bring the replacement home installation is reverse of the listed procedure. One thing to not is the position of the Jumper on Slave, Master, or Cable Select. This will be explained on the instructions that come with the new drive. Whatever the jumper setting is on the old drive make sure it is set the same on the new drive. Once this is done turn the computer on and you should be all set. Good luck and keep me posted.
