Yes - digital probe thermometers are very good for testing whether meat is cooked. The thin sensor is inserted into the fattest part of the meat. A wire then runs from the sensor out of the oven door, so that you can keep an eye on the temperature without having to keep taking it out the oven.

Meat weighs 2llb 20oz how long should i cook it for we like it medium rare ?

The best thing you can do is to buy a BBQ digital thermometer that you place in the meat during cooking. They have a heavy duty wire with a temperature probe on the end. Sear the meat directly over the coals (or hot side of a gas grill), then move the meat to a cool side and then insert the temperature probe and close the grill lid. Cook until it reaches desired temp, for me 125 degrees is perfect. The total cooking time is hard to judge as it depends on your grill cooking temp, but the digital thermometer takes all of the guesswork out of the equation as to when the meat is done.

I need to know the cooking times for my chicken

Use a thermometer and measure the chicken, keep track of how long it takes then you have the time it takes to cook that piece. It is always best to use a thermometer when cooking meat.

Generally I bake chicken at 350 degrees F. for 30 to 40 minutes. To be sure that the chicken bre asts are cooked thoroughly, use a instant digital Cooking or Meat Thermometer for the proper temperature of 165 degrees F.

Unit beeps continuously

I had the very same problem and some web research suggested my unit was dead. However, I called Brookstone and they informed me that a faulty probe is typically the problem. I ordered a "Replacement Probe for Grill Alert (SKU# 558783)" which cost $15 (plus shipping and tax). This solved my problem, was well worth it as I like the Grill Alert, and I cooking turkey tomorrow!

Here's the general rule of thumb for cooking temperatures for meats. Remember though, you cannot leave the thermometer inserted in the meats while cooking. It's only for Instant Read.Always insert it in the thickest part of the meat away from any bobes.

How long and what temp should you smoke a chicken for in an electric smoker?

I do a considerable amount of smoking and I cook my whole chicken till I reach an internal temp of 170 in the thigh or breast with a digital thermometer. It can take 3 hours or 5 depending on the chicken. Best to use a digital probe type thermometer for safety. I cook all my smoked meats at 225-250. I hope this helps.

I have a polder digital thermometer with two probes--but I didn't get instructions with them.. Can I insert the probe in the oven with the meat cooking or use only with the meat out of the oven to test it...

Timer is not identified for certain.
1) Some Polder timers have in-oven thermometer, and others say not to use thermometer inside oven.

2) The 12453 dual-sensor says inside-oven is ok

3) The 894 dual sensor says inside-oven is ok

4) TM360 dual probe says inside-over is ok

Polder timer manuals appear on following link:

I have the same problem. The problem is the probe went bad. I had a friend with another sumbeam digital probe (the mavrick) put that probe into mine and the temperature reading was working properly. So, now I am looking for a replacement probe. but looks like I will have to just buy another digital meat probe.
