My Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer won't release the beater. It was always a simple push up and turn and now it is stuck tight and you cannot push the beater up at all it won't even move no matter how much pressure you put on it. I read on the Kitchen Aid site that you can spray cooking spray on the spring to lubricate it and I tried that, still won't move.
I had this same problem as well. The beater was stuck like glue to the rotating arm, and it would not budge with any amount of pressure. I tried the cooking spray and it did nothing. But today I put a rag in hot/boiling water and then carefully wrapped it around the top of the beater. I let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I put the rag in hot water again and repeated the process for about another 5 minutes. When this was done, I covered the beater in a towel (to protect it) and forcefully tapped (ok... I pounded) it with the flat side of my meat tenderizer (it was all I had...you could use a mallet or hammer). It took a little bit of work because I had to hammer it from the bottom, then the side, then the top to get the little spoke guided through the shaft. But it did finally come off. After cleaning with hot water, I put the beater on again and noticed that it was still a little hard to get on/off. So, I put a little bit of veg. oil on it, and it seems to be better. Going forward, I will be sure to clean the top of the beater & arm after each use and then coat it with a little oil to keep from sticking. Best of luck!
Thank you so much!!! Had the same problem and did exactly as you did and it worked!!!
Many thanks also. I had the exact same problem and following your intructions the mixer is now released. My mixer is new so it wasn't a matter of food build up as much as i think the coating overspray inside. Still very tight going on and off but the oil helps.
many thanks for this...Just had the exact same problem - lil spray of veg oil, hot rag soak followed by a few 'taps' with the flat side of my meat tenderiser, and hey presto...beater now removed. A very 'ladylike' solution with 'ladylike' domestic tools to get the job done. Now to unscrew things with a blunt knife and to hammer home nails with my stiletto's !!!! :-D (joking of course!)
Thank for this excellent advice, worked lika a charm!
This solution worked for me, too! Thank you for posting.
Here I am thanksgiving morning with a stuck paddle! thank you for the great advice - boiling water on a towel (I had a big bowl underneath to catch the water) and cooking spray did the trick! woohoo. thank you!
You could also try heating the top of the beater with a hair dryer. After getting it apart, clean the shaft and then lubricate it with a bit mineral oil. Vegetable oils will go rancid and gummy after a while. Also soak your attachments in hot soapy water and use a small bottle brush to clean the hole where they attach to your mixer.
This is first time I’ve ever used mine. The whisk was already attached right out or the box and that’s the attachment I used. Tried to remove and the pin won’t line up with niche to allow removal. Don’t see where hot water will help. There’s no food matter stuck up there. What to do?

I filled up the mixing bowl with hot water and let the beater mechanism down into the hot water. Make sure that the top of the beater shaft is covered with water. Every 5 minutes, bring it up and try to wiggle it loose. Finally after 5 times of wiggling it, bit by bit, it came slowly loose. Hang in there. It will eventually come loose. Whew! ;-p
I had the same problem I tapped it with a sledge hammer and it released I then oiled the shaft down and the attachment , no more problems
I am having this problem with my mixer as well.
I have tried oil, filling up the bowl with soapy water and letting it stand overnight, pouring teapot after teapot of boiling water over the attachment opening... The beater won't budge, not a tiny bit. Could there be another explanation?

I did the same thing - wet a cloth with boiling water and tied it around the neck of the beater. Then you wrap the flat beater with another towel and hit it from the bottom. Then, use the cooking spray and repeat untll the beater is removed.
I just did the same thing with a K45SS and it worked great. I used a citrust gel spray rather than cooking oil but the hot water seems to be the key ingredient. I slowly poured about a cup of hot water from an electric water kettle onto a rag tied around the beater, let it sit about 5 minutes and it was ready to come off (and did) without even having to whack it first. Thanks everyone!
Worked for me as well. Thank you for posting.
Dear Alex, your advise is truly invaluable! It worked like magic! Thank you. Monica Georgeo
OK... The problem I had was the small pin that sticks out from the shaft. It seems a fraction too long and was preventing the beater turning so that the pin woun move into the grove where the beater would move down. I tried hot water, oil, WD40 ... all many many times. In the end, out of frustration. I wrapped the beater in a wet (for extra friction) tea towel and bashed it with my heaviest rolling pin. It took a dozen REALLY heavy whacks (I'm 120+kg) and eventually came loose. A small chip of metal from inside the beater where it touches the pin fell out. This is an obvious design fault. I filed down the pin... just a little... and now all my attachments slide on and off easily. Lastly I turned the mixer on and it's working... Phew!
