Gasket PRoblem I have the HE4T Elite and the gasket that connects the door and the tub has torn. It now leaks water when used. WHere do I find the parts for this repair?

Either the tub gasket needs replacement (item 3) in this diagram. or the door base gasket needs replacement. Alternatively, the door vent seal could be leaking. Item 4 in this diagram.

The door connects to a round gasket called the "bellows". If it is torn, deformed or coming off water will leak underneath. Undo the 3 screws in the lower front panel and do an inspection of that area

If water is coming through the door bellow and into the tub and not the floor, this is commonly caused by a water inlet valve that is leaking by or a pressure switch malfunction. The following link explains how to diagnose the problem to determine which one is causing your problem:

If you have water leaking on the floor, you may also have a bellow with a rip or tear. If the bellow is leaking, it must be replaced. Pull back the rubber folds and inspect the entire perimeter around the door to be sure. If the bellow needs replaced, the following link explains how:

The most common cause for a front loading washer to leak from the front door is a torn or detached gasket where that gasket attached to the machine.
Open the door and begin to pull the gasket away from the opening. Look for any problems. If you find a place where the gasket is not firmly secured to the opening, you can list that area up and glue (even with super glue) the gasket back down to the metal opening.
If you find gasket damage, it will need to be replaced.

Hello LPeck, This is a pretty common issue with all front loading washers. Typically it has to do with the door bellows (gasket) that seals the door to the washer cabinet.

First, look very carefully at the gasket all the way around, using a flashlight. Pay close attention to the area where the water flows into the washer. This is usually located on the upper part of the gasket and sometimes the water inlet port gets the gasket moved out of place and when the water is flowing into the washer, it can leak outside of the gasket. Make sure that the gasket is properly located around the water inlet port and that the gasket does NOT extend past the water nozzle.

The other thing to do is again look very carefully at the entire gasket for small cuts or tears that might be allowing water to leak out. Even a small cut can allow alot of water to leak out of the wash tub, so carefully push/pull the gasket with your fingers while shining the flashlight onto it.

In almost all cases, it is a cut or torn gasket that is the source of the leak.

This is an easy self-service repair, only requiring a few basic hand tools to remove the gasket bellows from the washer cabinet and inner wash tub. Just fold the back lip from the washer cabinet and you'll see the retainer wire that holds the bellows onto the cabinet. With that removed, you can then slip the bellows gasker off the cabinet lip and see and get at the inner wash tub retaining clamp. Typically held on with a large diameter hose clamp. Remove that and you're ready to install the new one in the reverse order.

Just be sure to let the new gasket lay out to help get most of the kinks out of it, from being in the small shipping box, and install it slowly and carefully, so not to put any cuts in it.

This will save you around $150 +/- instead of having a service tech do the installation/repair for you.

this are the possibilities for the leak :-----
Door gasket loose/torn
Corner gaskets or door baffle/vent gasket
Door lock/latch loose/broken
Split spray arm
Over filling with water...usually the level is just under the heating element is normal
Something leaking through the door...like the soap or rinse agent dispenser gasket, silverware basket button.
Door hinge(s) bent
Wrong soap was used...dish sink soap instead of dishwasher soap
Rinse aid being used with mechanically softened water ( makes foam or suds inside the dishwasher )

Leaks from under the unit:
Look for whiting or calcium stain on the motor and pump assembly = motor and pump assembly seal leak...access panel removal help
Hose for upper spray arm split
Fill hose split or fill hose spout air inlet is calcium covered
Drain hose is split
Rusted liner...metal liners only
Fill valve leaking or allowing water to fill all the time
Heating element ends....where they come out through the dishwasher liner
Float or float gasket.

You will need to remove the lower kick panel directly below the door to gain access to the inside cabinet to see where the leak may be coming from. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom front edge of the panel. With the screws removed, the panel will drop down, then come off.

NOTE: Propping the two front feet of the washer up with something (a 2x4 works well for this) will give you better access to the screws.

The most common source of leakage on this washer is the rubber bellow around the door. It can develop cracks or tears over time and require replacement. A tell-tale sign is the front counterweight (looks like a concrete block on the front of the wash tub) looking wet. The counterweight will remain dry if the tub is sealed properly. From the inside of the washer, pull the rubber folds back on the door bellow and inspect the perimeter for any rips or tears. If the bellow is damaged, it must be replaced. If the bellow is intact, check the rear bellow seal where it connects to the front of the wash tub. If the clamp comes loose the bellow can shift and begin to leak. Tighten if necessary.

Check the drain pump and hoses to ensure they are not leaking. The drain pump is directly in the front under the wash tub.

Check the area directly below the wash tub. If the leak is coming from the wash tub iteself, you may have a bad tub seal. A replacement gasket doesn't cost much at all, but the labor involved is extensive.

Another simple problem is the dispenser tube(s) that come through the door bellow. Sometimes, these small tubes will work their way behind the rubber in the door and leak when the washer attempts to fill or rinse. This is a simple matter of adjusting the tubes to ensure they are seated through the door gasket properly.

NOTE: The repairman was correct about leaving the door open to prevent mold and mildew. Due to the water tight seal of these doors it is important to leave the door open when not in use to prevent any residual water from becoming stagnant and allows the wash tub to air out. Also, you should always check and clean the area around the door. Small articles of clothing can get stuck in this area and begin to mildew as well. I have repaired this washer numerous times and personally own one. I have never had a problem with it in the 9 years I've had it, following this regiment.

Leaks coming from the front door are commonly caused by a worn tub gasket. The gasket is located around the perimeter of the tub opening when you opening the door. It can be easily replaced and is not that expensive. The part number is 8269110 and can be purchased at appliancepartspros.com for about $22.

Installation is easy. Just remove the old gasket by pulling it out of the groove in the tub opening. Clean the area to ensure it is free of any debris or build up from detergent or food. The new gasket should have a mark indicating the middle of the gasket. The mark should be on the side of the gasket that is to be inserted in the groove. Starting at the top of the tub opening, insert the center of the gasket first and carefully work the remaining gasket along the left and right sides, seating it in the groove. Make sure you do not twist it. The door may be a little more difficult to shut for a while until the gasket compresses and seats over time.

For future reference, here are some things that can wear these gaskets out.

1. The silverware tray rubbing against it as you roll the lower wash rack in and out of the tub. Knives and forks can catch on the gasket and tear it. Make sure you keep all utensils from the tub edge as much as possible to prevent them from scraping the gasket, or getting closed in the door.

2. Not cleaning the gasket periodicially. The gasket is the part of the dishwasher that water never reaches. If food gets on it and is allowed to dry, it can create irregular wear of the gasket facing, causing it not to seat properly against the door.

normal problem all front loads all brands.. leave door open as much as possible.. to clean fill tub with hot water pour in 2 cups chlorine bleach use rag in solution wipe gasket out as good as possible allow washer to run normal cycle ..do as routine when ever odor is first noticed leaving door open will allow most of water to evaporate

Won't start nor drain. what could the problem be? please help.
