Try throwing the electrical breaker off and then on to see if it will reset. If not you could put it through another cycle to see if its a jammed armature. However either the door lock motor armature is jammed or the motor is the problem or the solid state did not recognize the cycle was over. If you open the breakers and remove the covers to access the mounting screws you can work the unit out of the wall. Be sure to place some heavy towel or card board on the ground to keep from damaging the floor. Watch placement of your hands and depending on your fittness level you may need a hand pulling and replacing the unit. Test the electrical supply to ensure that its not energized. Then try disengaging the lock armature. IF YOU OPT TO REMOVE THE LOCK THEN THE UNIT SHOULD NOT BE USED IN THE CLEANING CYCLE, EVEN THOUGH THE UNIT SHOULD NOT FUNCTION WITH THE LOCK DISENGAGED, YOU NEVER KNOW ABOUT ELECTRONICS AND IF IT RAN IN THE CLEANING CYCLE SOMEOEN COULD OPEN IT AND GET BADLY BURNED. SO DONT DO IT. You should be able to order the parts needed on line at this website. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?intcmp=xsite_Sears Best o Luck :?) DRRXR

SOURCE: My Kenmore Oven door won't unlock

It appears your door lock mechanism has failed in this instance.

First - unplug the unit for 40 minutes and re-try.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

I don't know the model # but its a kenmore oven and my daughter left her finger on the stop button too long and so the oven door automatically locked us out. I can't find the book for it

According to the eHow website,
"press and hold the stop/clear button for 3 seconds to unlock the door."
(it's the same to lock the door in the first place.)

According to the Just Answer website, either press and hold the stop/clear button for 3 seconds or 5 seconds, (A beep will sound. The "DOOR LOCKED" will continue to flash until the oven door has completely unlocked and the lock icon light has cleared.) or you have to press the button 3 times quickly.

H E L P !!! My oven made some noises this morning when my husband was wiping down the front of the oven door. Noise sounded like the "oven was going into clean mode"....but then only lasted...

Hello.

Please apply the solution this way!

To close an oven door when it's in the locked position and the door is open, press and hold the oven door light switch while following these simple steps:
  • Program the oven to self-clean.
  • Wait 20 seconds.
  • Cancel self-clean.
  • Wait 20 seconds.
To self-clean your wall oven, follow these simple steps:
  • Remove the oven racks.
  • Set your oven control to "Clean."
  • Select a cleaning time or choose a cleaning level: light, medium or heavy. For typical cleaning needs, we recommend that you select a cleaning time of three hours or choose the medium setting.
  • Select "Start." (To set a delayed start, see your Use & Care Guide.)

Note: For safety reasons, the oven door will remain locked until the oven cools down. When it is sufficiently cool, the door will automatically unlock.

Thanks for using fixya.

Oven door will not unlock

Hello,, Some times this will happen after a self clean cycle if the timer did not finish the entire clean. Try to set the clock to start the self clean again then simply end the self clean. This should unlock the door. If the door remains locked. You may check the oven for an error code, or the door latch itself may need to be replaced. One other possible would be to turn off the power to the oven and try to let the oven control reset. leave the power off for about 15 minutes then turn the power back on. That will sometime work aswell. Good luck and feel free to call me if you need more help.

I cant get my self cleaning oven to unlock... what do I do, I cant find my manual

Unplug the unit or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
or
Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
If these procedures fail to correct the condition, the lock must usually be accessed and moved manually to open the door.
Some model ovens require the oven door to be manually unlatched before the controls are returned to the OFF position or else the door may not be able to be unlocked. Check the owner's manual for proper operating procedures.

Kenmore oven locked

Hello dktshopping,
I know you probable don't want to hear this but in you circumstance, I think you would be better off to contact a repair professional. Those oven door locks are meant to keep the door from opening during the oven's self-cleaning cycle. They are both mechanically and temperature controlled so that the door can not be opened when the oven is 950 degrees. It sounds to me as though something is not releasing to allowing the locking mechanisim to disengage from the door even though the lever is in the unlock position. The unit will probably have to be taken apaprt to remedy the problem. Good luck.

We have turned off the circuit breaker and turned back on, but nothing seems to unlock the door. Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!!!!!

Oven locked and I don't know how to unlock

To unlock the oven. Switch the beaker off for 5 minutes. This will reset the integrated system. Turn the unit back on and if it doesn't unlock, set the unit for self clean and let it engage. Waite about one minute and cancel the self clean cycle. This should unlock the door(s).
