The minitower case provides an easy no-tools-needed access to the computer innards.

You should be able to open the case just fine by sliding the tab in rear of the case against the normal position. Then all you have to do is lift up the cover.

It is possible... Yes.

Is it worth it... Maybe the ram upgrade to 8GB is worth the money...

Also, some all in one computers are very hard to even figure out how to open. You better make sure you can do it before you try. You also might want to check if opening the case voids your warranty too.

New motherboardsfor old systems are very rare indeed if anyone has one. Your best bet is look for a used one on ebay etc or consider upgrading to something newer.

How to install upgrade sdram 128 pc133 for gateway 500
PC 133 Max ram for your model is 512MB - two 256 Memory sticks. Open the case, remove the menory in there (one clips on the side of each module) take note of the way the module comes out - replace with your new ones - reboot and that should be that.

Hmm since your documentation is conflicting i would suggest that you use this little app www.sisoftware.net
Theres a free version and it will tell you everything you need to know about your computer and even suggest improvements and upgrades. You should easily find out how much ram it can take.
