It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors or feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET/PUMP MOTOR/DRAIN to work when it is commanded .If this does not happen then the voltage at these points must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage/drive from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.

Check how to remove the control panel: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/dishwashers/a/3/1287/how-to-replace-a-hotpoint-dishwasher-fascia-p.html

If the water flows then the flow should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter. Also check the flow at the inlet of the water line. What is most important for the motor to start functioning is that the door switch must be ON when the door is shut or this will be an error for starting the motor. The water pressure must be good and the spraying must be seen to be good. If there is low pumping or pressure then the spray arms will not turn around to inject with pressure. If so the pump must be checked for clogging.

To replace check this link:

http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/dishwashers/a/3/1293/how-to-replace-the-spraying-system-on-a-dishw.html

Finally after the wash the drain valve will be activated, the water is allowed to come in to rinse and then finally the drain valve/pump activated so as to drain off all the water.

Make sure that a fault in any of the cycle will relate to the specified action, so check the command from the program module and then the executing device be it the valve or motor or pump.

1. My dishwsher has filled with brown stains over

Several methods for cleaning the brown stains. Assuming they are rust stains you need to run a cycle without any dishes and a cleaner. Suggested cleaners are lemon juice or Iron Out. Some people use vinegar.

Racks should be available at your local appliance parts store or online. Appliance Parts at http://www.appliance-parts-warehouse.com and some at sears.com. Most are not difficult to install. Some require some thought to figure out how to get the old ones out.

Top arm does not turn. leaves white stuff all over dishes.

Without having much information to go on, I would venture to guess there is a problem with the water supply. If the initial water fill level is low, the force of the water coming out of the spray arms is minimal and would never be forceful enough to dissolve the detergent used. When starting a a new cycle and it runs for a few minutes...filling then stopping, open the door and take a good look at the level of the water. If below the heating element, add about 1-2 gallons of water and close the door. Does the sound of the water seem to be more forceful? If so, remove your water supply line going to the dishwsher and look inside the valve itself. See if the screen is blocked. If it is, using a small screwdriver, scrape the screen and then blow it out. Reattach and see if the unit fills with more water this time. If I can help further, I am here....

Washer does not fill at all

Have you checked the filter just inside the water hoses. You just turn off the water and unfastenent he hoses from the machine and you will find a little filter. It may be clogged with lint, sand, etc.
