Very Noisy Operation

My Kenmore Elite Oasis Top Loading washing machine has a very noisy agitation cycle. It almost sounds like a ratcheting noise whose sound level increases with increased agitation speed. During the spin cycle the noise is of a constant nature and is extremely loud.

I'm not clear on what your suggestion is.

What on the agitator I'm accessing through the back of the unit?

Doesn't the agitator come out through the top?

Any pics or drawings available, i.e. on-line parts manual?

You will have to access the bottom of the agitator from the back of the machine. Either you have loose bolts or else you agitator bearings are shot

you will have to remove the bolts holding down the agitator.
where the agitator shaft meets the motor, you will want to loosen the bolts and pull out the bearings with the shaft. The agitator will have to be removed from the top, as well as the tub. Then you will be able to pull out the motor, bearings and shaft. replace the bearings

The following may or may not answer your question, but following is the Whirlpool Service Manual for their Cabrio washer (basically the same as the Sears Oasis)

This should give you an idea as to whether you can repair it yourself.

Excessive noise during the spin cycle. we have owned the washer for 16 months. problem started 1 wk. the machine is level.

It's noisy Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Sounds like a motor problem drawing to many amps dimming lights. Check drain pump to see if pump has obstruction in it causing resistance. Run machine while pump is off to see if light dim.
