I bought one also from ALDI for my son's Xbox 360, it is only 3 weeks in use and I have the same problem. The red led is on, indicating that it is in standby mode and recieving power but I can't turn it on either by pressing the power on button on the TV it's self or the on button on the remote. This started happening a few days ago and it's totally random. I found that if you unplug the TV from the power point or alternatively switch off the power point for a minute, than power it on again it will "WORK AGAIN" for a while. Like I said it is random, eventually it will return to the not being able to be switched on state at which time you will have to repeat the process. So thus, this is not really a solution. I am about to return the TV for a refund, and it's a shame because otherwise it's not too bad. and looks OK too.

Unplug for 2 minutes. Plug it back in and hold the power button down on the tv and the light will turn green and the tv will work. It just happened to me and I did that and it worked. :)

Did anyone find a cause for this fault ?
I've read on OzBargain website that there is a electronics board that you can replace inside the TV pretty easily DIY. Wondering if anyone else can confirm that or provide more info - thanks

Mediion LCD 31.5 inch. Standby power on failure.

I received one of these broken TV's recently for use in my home lab. The television would turn on when cold but fail to turn on from standby after a few hours or less of being plugged in. To resolve this I reflowed the firmware flash chip and surrounding components (decoupling capacitors etc) with a hot air station. I believe the part was U8 on the board, a winbond SPI flash chip.

The tv has worked fine since.

Fault one: Power supply not supplying the 24v needed for the backlight inverter. Replace the capacitors in-line to the 24v line. Replace capacitors with same uF and higher Voltage rating. EX: 1000uF 10v --> 1000uF 35v.

Fault two: Backlight inverter has blown surface mount fuse nearest the 24v input of the backlight inverter. If not the fuse, then backlight assembly will need changed based of serial # of the board.

Thank you, hope this helps!

SOURCE: I HAVE A 55 INCH

Please clarify the 'THE USUAL FIXES'
Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera's Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera's screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.

SOURCE: my LG TV red light won't turn on. although the plug fuse and the remote OK

Try manually pressing the power/standby button on the tv (side or bottom) the red light should appear, most modern tv's will turn on simply by pressing the channel up or down on the tv itself.. But unfortunately in most cases, this seems to be an internal surge and needs a professional to inspect..

SOURCE: 37 inch LG LCD won't turn on due to power failure

Power failures can cause all types of problems, have you firstly checked the fuse in the mains plug? If that is ok then it may have blown an internal fuse in the power supply board, these are there to protect the rest of the circuit from power surges.

SOURCE: My son dropped my 32'' inch LG lcd tv now it won't

It probably has a cracked circuit board. If you want to repair it on your own open it up and see if you can find where that cracked section is and see if you can resolder it back properly.

Sony bravia lcd won't power on after lightning strike

I am sure the tv is shot from the surge but you can check a few things. I would take the tv apart and test the power supply first. Look for obvious burn damage throughout the boards. If there is a blackened one (prob video board) then you can try to replace that. Don't worry about taking this apart and breaking it further. In this case it can only get better for you.

Philips model 37PF7320A won't turn on

The power supply regulator section is not working properly. It will be best to replace this board as card basis rather than trying to make it right. Philips have used some special numbered components there, which are very difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. Contact the nearest authorized service center for Philips to buy a new board.

Hi,

Try unplugging the TV from the power point and leave unplugged for 5 min.
Or the batteries in the remote may be flat, try replacing the batteries.
If this doesn't work the TV may have a fault.

I hope this helps
