Just in the last couple of weeks, the refrigerator started making a buzzing sound every few minutes, lasting several seconds. It sounds like the ice maker is trying to fill, but our ice maker has never been hooked up. The metal arm is up, so it shouldn't be trying to fill. The fridge and freezer are both working fine as far as cooling/freezing.
There are some wires going from the icemaker into the back of the freezer in a little clip like thing - can I unplug that clip to see if it stops? Or will that control something else or shock me?
It's a Maytag MFD2560HES French doors, freezer on bottom.

you have a defrost problem, could be bad adaptive defrost board,t-stat heater, when you open freezer door listen for fan if fan is blowing check the t-stat,look at it and see if it has a buldge on it,sometime you can see this and tell it's bad, you'll need a meter to read out the heater and other parts to see whats bad, might be a good idea to call a tech to do this, when you find problem you have to melt everything out again

Hi,
If the ice maker no longer make ice, check the following.
Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned
off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the
ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the
raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply
lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on.
On others,
you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is
in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be
between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the
ice maker may not produce any ice.
Check your door seals and thermostat,
repair/replace as necessary.
Thanks

Mine (same model) does the same thing. The only way I get it to work is to open the freezer, and move the metal ice lever arm up and back down again. Then it starts. But after a day, the arm stops moving and it breaks. I can't stand it anymore.
Before moving into my new house with the mfd2560hes, I had to replace an ice maker in my whirlpool refrigerator. So, I guess I'll be googling this maytag model and buying an icemaker motor replacement kit.
if I'm successfull, I'll post it here.

Hi, it's either the lever arm is damaged or you need to raise the arm up and lock it in place to make it work properly....

Usually answered in minutes!
Fridge buzzes every few minutes, last for a few seconds. Thought is was from the ice tray, but pushed up lever arm to shut off. After more careful listening, I realized the sound is coming from under the fridge. Everything seems to we working fine other then the noise.
Same thing - Freezer stopped cooling - then started to work well again but buzzing noise is still thereb
I emailed Maytag and they said to try unplugging the fridge for about 5 minutes then plug back in. This didn't work for me, the buzzing is still there, but thought I'd pass it along to others having the same problem in case it works for them. I also tried unplugging those wires that go into a clip - thinking that would unplug the ice maker. This didn't work either.
Maytag sent repair man out today, the compressor was going bad, they replaced it. Found my receipt and we still had 6 months left on the 5 year compressor warranty! No more buzz...
