Amana bottom freezer/ refrigerator

My Amana BX22S5E bottom freezer/ upper refrig is freezing in the freezer section but slightly cold in the upper refrigerator section. I can see heavy frost on the back wall of the freezer and it sounds like the fan that pulls cold air up to the refrig section is working. What & how can I troubleshoot to determine the cause?

The evaporator fan is definetly working, the coils were all iced up and the thermistat looks like the one in your picture with a separation of the plastic cover at the top. I metered the thermistat with an ohm meter and got 50 ohms across the wires and then metered the heater and got 20 ohms thru the element. Does this sound like good or bad ohm readings? Iam going to replace the thermistat first, just wondering about the heater element.
    Thanks

Geezer, sounds like a defrost issue. I usually find the bi-metal to be the culprit on this model. Check out the pic. You will have to remove the back panel in the freezer and defrost the evaporator. Remove the ice maker if there is one. The back cover has 4 quarter inch screws. remove those. The air vent has 2 plastic clips one each side and one on the bottom, push in and pull the grill off. The thermistor cover has a slot for a flat blade screw driver, push in and pull the cover off. The thermistor will now slide behind the back panel. Check the bi-metal for buldging. As long as the evaporator fan is working, it's probably a defrost problem.

either the evaporator fan in the damper vent door isnt running to push cold air from the freezer up into the refrige compartment or the damper vent door between the freezer and refrige section is frozen shut and cannot open to allow cold air flow, you need to access the evaporartor coil in the freezer rear wall and check both the fan and door movement

Do not know how to find a repair in your area, but here is what is wrong:
The cooling coils, located behind the back wall of the freezer section, have frosted up, preventing the normal flow of air. Now, some of the cold air in the freezer is sinking and flowing into the bottom of the fresh foods section through the air vent by the bottom bin. To fix this, disconnect power to the refrigerator and unload the freezer side. Remove the panel at the back of the freezer section and melt all the frost and ice. Replace the heater at the bottom of the cooling coils, which would normally take care of the frost build up. Reassemble and restore power.

Water wont dispense but still makes ice. Also fridge side gets extremely cold no matter the settings and freezes stuff in the bottum drawers

Since your freezer control is the main thermostat , and your refrig control is only a damper , lower your freezer setting and turn the refrig control mid way . This will make the refrig run less , and keep the air flow moving , throughout the complete unit . When the airflow stops , by turning down the refrig control ( closing the damper ) , all the cold air will settle in the refrig section , thereby freezing everything in the lower section .
Since the water line runs thru the freezer door , too cold in the freezer section , will cause the water in the line to freeze . I would also suggest installing a dispensor heater ( pt. # WR49X10173 ) , which would hopefully avoid water line freeze , in the future . This part comes with installation instructions .
