Microwave won't heat for first minute - starts working normally after that.

I have a 2 year old Kitchenaid Microwave/Convection oven model KHMC1857WSS that has developed a strange problem when using the microwave function. When set to 100% power the microwave does not start heating until after a full minute passes. At 61 seconds the fan slows very slightly and it starts heating normally. It will also heat OK at 90% power. I've checked the voltage at the wall plug and it's fine, even under load. I've done some research and found solutions posted saying that the magnetron is energized by the control board and that only the control board could cause a problem of this type. I ordered a new control board and after replacing it the microwave has exactly the same problem. What else can cause this problem?

The magnetron may be defective. You can replace the magnetron, there is no other possibility.

My kitchenaid microwave will not heat in microwave mode. In fact the turntable starts and stops and the display blinks intermittenly. In convection oven mode everything works fine - It heats, turntabl

The magnetron is the main part that gives out microwaves to heat the food. As the convection bit is working this points towards the microwave bits.
The magnetron has a main diode, fuse and transformer to run the microwave bit, any of these could be faulty. A word of warning though, there are extremely high voltages inside microwaves, even when unplugged in the main capacitor. Also to repair this section you will need to be a fully qualified engineer to even order parts for this.

Oven won't shut off

One of the door switches is defective, caused by a build up of food particles or normal ware, to correct this a professional will need to identify the problem and replace it.

I have a KHMC106W Micro-Convect Hood - all of sudden when we used the microwave it didn't sound right and the food never heated up. I unplugged and waited about 2 min and replugged back in and it still...

the Magnetron has gone (yes it's really called that) that's the part of the microwave that emits radio waves and cooks your food... 30 years ago when this tech (Microwave cooking) was new and expensive it was cheaper to replace that part than buy new... now it's the other way around... at least you still have a working electric convection oven.
it's very rare that a Magnetron go bad, so look for an old one of the same model and use that one for parts if it's that loved.

Convection oven problem

Most of the time the magnetron is defective if the food is not heating up.
In some cases there is a defective low power transformer or other componenents associated with the magnetron.
I would suggest to check the owners manual under the warranty section. Sometimes the magnetron has 5 years warranty.
Good Luck.
