THANKS so so much. Can you advise further how I determine which part needs replacement; the defrost timer, heater, or therma disk? I thought it was the thermostat, could that also be a possibility? Your help is so so appreciated.

Defrost system failure.

Defrost timer, heater, therma disk, any one could be bad.

You could manually defrost and this would get the Ref back to working for a couple of days before it iced up again. Remember there is a lot of ice build up on the cooling coils in the freezer that you can't see so, a little extra time with a hair dryer is needed to do a complete manual defrost.

Thermostat would make it run more and freeze items in the ref. side and not likely to Ice/frost build up in the freezer.

The defrost system failure more likely.

They will have to be checked with an OHM meter. The heater and therma disc are on the cooling coils in the freezer.

Ice builds up inside packages in freezer.

This is the moisture coming out of the food. It is what causes freezer burn.

The problem is made worse in frost free models by the defrost cylce. Best way to slow it down is to use vacuum bags or freezer bags. Also above 0 F food deterioates faster and below it gets freezer burn and the moisture problem faster.

Frozen vents from freezer to fridge

you most likely have a defrost problem.or a clogged drain.you need to check your defrost heater defrost timer and thermostat.if ice is formed over drain then you can unclog drain with hot water.you will see when it is unclogged, water will run down drain without running over into bottom of freezer.

sounds like water line is blocked with frozen ice. have a technician clean the line and check the icemaker and water line for any kinks.

Freezer not that cold

check to see if the evap. fan is running or if you have frost build-up on the back wall of the freezer. if so call a service company quick because the freshfood section is not cooling either; all the cooling starts in the freezer and transfer air via evap fan to the freshfood section. am are more subject to defrost t-stats going bad
