SOURCE: how to open FP music box record player, #995 or #995N

Fisher Price Music box: to open, remove the four screws from the bottom, open the two parts as wide as possible without using too much force. Using a small flat blade screw driver, insert between the red cover and white top where the wind up knob is located. Pry the red bottom out far enough to allow the ring surrounding the knob to slide under the red bottom. The box is now open.

After repair, and re-assembling, make sure the wider part of the wind up stop wheel faces the front of the player, otherwise the wind up knob catches and slows the mechanism.

I'm not sure what size the hex screws are, but it's a very narrow walled socket or nut driver that you'll need. There's a place online that will sell you the exact tool for $17 or so. Don't waste your money. To do this job, you'll need a few of the clear Bic pens and a candle. Take the ink part out of the pen, then slightly melt the end with the colored cap. Quickly stick the melted end down the hole with the screw. Press hard, then let the melted plastic cool. Then, turn the hex screw. It took me a couple of times to make it work, but it does work, and I didn't have to buy a special tool.

SOURCE: Fisher price kid tough music

I went to www.fisher-price.com/kidtough/ re-downloaded the software and installed/launched it but didn't get any updates. So I disconnected the player but left the Fisher-Price software running in the background and started doing other stuff. When I went to shut down my computer, I was about to shut down the Fisher-Price software when I noticed the message prompt "THERE IS AN UPDATE TO THE SOFTWARE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO DOWNLOAD IT" I was so excited to see the prompt and I hit OK. It told me to connect the player to the computer before starting so I did and it automatically did an update. It appears to be working now! Sure hope this doesn't happen again!

My Sister's kid tough music player is showing an exclamation mark...reset would do it, batteries would do anything...what can I do?

I found this on another post:
"I had a error close to that one. It was a picture of the player with a flashing exclaimation. I couldn't do anything with the player. It was frozen. I plugged it into the computer and no results. I changed the batterys and got no results. I found the software and hooked it up to the computer again. It said there was a software update. I followed the prompts and it worked. The music player was back to normal. So those of you that have this player MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE SOFTWARE!!!"

How do you repair a FP Music Box Record Player. I don't know how old this is, but my kids were little in the 1980's and 90's. It still works but not as fast as it should and the teeth that make the music...

my grandsons broke their mother's (and aunts') FP music box.
There was almost no sound
The teeth are simply a wind-up music box set, connected to a rod that transmits the vibrations to the diaphragm under the pseudo-tone-arm. I was able to fix by placing a cotter-pin on the rod in the arm at or near the junction and then trim with wire cutters to the correct size.
I checked the diaphragm first by tapping it through the arm/table connection.
