Have a Fuji F10. Lens has started to lock, unable to close, with "focus error" on screen. What is it and is worth repairing. Love this camera

  • stevenfester Jan 21, 2009

I need to know if the cost of repairing my FUJI F10 camera will be excessive or should I consider purchasing a new camera. My previous respnse from Fixya just said to go ahead and repair. With the high costs of repairs and the low cost of better, newer cameras, I'm not sure what to do?

  • stevenfester Jan 21, 2009

I am disappointed with the help from your two "professionals" and feel that unless I recieve a further more informative response, I will have completely wasted my money. I await your reply.

Are you using that camera for several years? first try to replace the battery with a new battery, if the problem goes again, open the camera by unlocking the screws and clean the lens with a soft cotton or clean cloth, and then turn the camera again. if the problem is still the same, resolder the small circuit that drives the camera lens, or that is connected to the camera lens by using a soldering iron 30 watts, but first turn off the camera. then turn the camera again. see if this one's works, if you don't know how to do one of these things. just have your camera repair by a professional technician. the repair cost isn't big enough. thnks,

Have a nice day ahead

I have to Agree with the Comment above that you Put. There are a Great number of Better Cheaper Cameras on the Market right now. I would keep the One that you have, Get a New one and repair that one Later when you have the Funds for it.

Sorry to say my fuji has the same problem I called a camera store and they told me it would cost around 250.00 to repair. The part the wint wrong is the gears for the shutter striped or got jambed up. So I junked it and bout a new camera. If you think it is worth 250 to repair the get it repaired.

  • Anonymous Jan 21, 2009

I would just replace It and save you a headache. Also a new camera will have the warranty and the repair will not.

  • Anonymous Jan 21, 2009

If you want call a camera shop and ask them what it would cost to repair. You will be surprised on the price.

I had the same problem with my S5600 too. It broke down after using it for only 4 months. It's really frustrating. I tried changing batteries and resetting the camera but it didn't work. I bought the camer from the UK, and I don't have international warranty support here. The local Fuji repair center said it would cost about $145 to fix, almost two thirds the price of a new S5600. I belive its not worth fixing.

F10 finepix schemitacs

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct your problem. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them. As you stated that the lens is bent, you may need to start with Fix 7 first to straighten the lens first, before proceeding with the other fixes.

Getting an zoom error on my fuji film finepix z90, what can i do?

Lens errors (zoom errors on Fuji's) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Focus error? The camera won't focus. Focus Error is displayed in the viewing screen. Zoom action & everything else seems to work fine. Won't focus, won't take pictures.

This is a known issue with Fuji S3000 cameras caused by dust and dirt that get in through the loosely mounted lens mechanism, there are only three solutions.

  1. If under warranty you can send the camera in for repair.
  2. Saturate around the lens with WD40 and wiggle the lens until it becomes responsive again every month or so.
  3. Dismantle the camera and clean out around the internal gear-box and lens components about once a year.

Zoom error showing on display screen of my daughters fuji finepix f40fd digital camera. Unable to press button to take photos and when I try to turn camera off the zoom lens goes in and out twice before...

The lens Is trying to close properly but the focus mechanism has a problem, most likely jammed, so the lens cannot correctly close or work properly.
It will need to be opened up and reset.

Focus error

Very common Fuji lens problems. Find a good independent repair shop that may be able to fix. Fuji will charge a huge sum to replace lens.

'FOCUS ERROR'

If bought this at best buy and are still under your MFG warranty they can send it out to repair, or if you have their service plan, nothing you can do, this needs to be sent to a repair facility...

FOCUS ERROR

I also had this problem. When starting the focus error alert came. Trying to move the focus button also triggered this. When I turned it off, the lens did not pull back. After being close to trowing it away, I used a little bit more force than before and turned the lens manually. I heard a click, and than it worked again. PS: Follow this tip on your own risk.....
